Role

About Highland Children and Young People’s Forum (HCYPF)

The aim of Highland Children and Young People’s Forum is ‘to contribute to the highest possible standards of services in the Highlands for the benefit of children and young people with additional support needs’.

Our focus has moved from consultation work to participation work; not representing the views of children and young people but empowering children and young people to speak out for themselves.

We work within a policy and participation context and cover the Highlands.

This post will be mainly working within the Inspire Highland young people’s project.

Internship Overview

This internship provides an exciting opportunity for a motivated, passionate individual to increase the digital/remote participation of children and young people with additional support needs (ASNs) and disabilities living in the Highlands.

This is a unique, developmental role whereby the Digital Participation Worker (Children and Young People) will enable creative, inclusive and fun engagement and participation opportunities for children and young people to empower them to speak up and have their voices heard.

Main duties and tasks of the role

Through the mediums of digital participation and digital/remote youth work the main tasks of the role of Digital Participation Worker are to:

  • Provide HCYPF with evidence of need for digital participation work to promote the voices of children and young people in Highland with ASNs or disabilities.
  • Increase the digital engagement of children and young people with additional support needs/disabilities in the work of HCYPF, particulary with children of primary school age.
  • Provide increased opportunities for children and young people with additional support needs/disabilities living in remote and rural areas of Highland to have an opportunity to have their voices heard.
  • Provide increased opportunities children and young people at greatest risk of exclusion (e.g. those within the criminal justice system or with communication challenges) to have an opportunity to have their voices heard.
  • Identify the issues around digital exclusion for children and young people in Highland.
