Who we are

Alcohol Focus Scotland (AFS) is Scotland’s national alcohol charity, committed to preventing and reducing harm to individuals, families, communities and Scotland as a whole.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a motivated Youth Engagement Officer who is passionate about improving the lives of children and young people in Scotland. Working as part of our dynamic team you will take forward our work to help promote every child’s right to an ‘alcohol free childhood’. You will have a varied role, supporting children and young people to gather evidence on the visibility and availability of alcohol and to challenge what they see, and working to improve peoples’ understanding of how alcohol can impact on young people.

We are looking for a candidate with:

· Experience of engaging widely with young people and youth organisations.

· Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish good relationships with young people and partner organisations.

· In-depth understanding of social media platforms, with strong IT and digital skills.

· Understanding of the Scottish policy and political environment and decision making structures.

· The ability to articulate key messages to a range of audiences.

· A strong commitment to young people and to delivering outcomes that improve their lives.

This role will form a crucial part of AFS’s work to support children and young peoples’ voices to be heard in the decisions that affect their lives, in particular in relation to the forthcoming Scottish Government consultation on alcohol marketing. It provides an exciting opportunity for anyone wishing to pursue a career in policy and campaigning.

We would particularly welcome applications from young people with experience or understanding of alcohol and its impacts.

Alcohol Focus Scotland is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
