We are looking for a Seasons for Growth Education Support Worker, to work with children who have been particularly adversely affected by the impacts of the Covid-19 virus. This post is offered on a one-year fixed term contract, working 22.5 hours per week during term time. Many of the most vulnerable children in Tayside have lost the secure base provided by attending education, as well as being cut off from positive attachments within their wider family network, school life, and community connections such as attending clubs and outdoor activities. These children are experiencing heightened anxieties including fear of catching the virus, being separated from friends and family and having extended periods of time at home, particularly when housing is poor and/or there is no space for outdoor play.
You will work with children delivering Seasons for Growth programmes which provide an opportunity for them to share their thoughts and feelings within a supportive peer group setting. The programme is designed to support children and young people affected by change, loss and grief. Since its launch in 1996 the programme has helped over 40,000 children, young people and adults. Its vision is ‘A health society where grief and loss are recognised as part of life and appropriate support is available for all.’ We already successfully provide this programme to four schools in Dundee. Children benefiting from our support have told us:
“I know who I can go to for help now, before I just wouldn’t have asked.”
“Change is OK and so is being sad.”
“It helps you feel included”.
You will be skilled in engaging with children, young people and families. You will undertake Seasons for Growth training and then; support relevant school staff to identify children to participate in the programme; build relationships with teachers and other education school staff; and liaise with others involved in the care of the children/young people. You will also be required to provide evaluation reports to each school after completion of each Seasons for Growth programme.
Please see the ‘Person Specification’ document included with this advert on our website for further details on preferred qualifications and experience.
If you would like more information or wish to discuss this post, please contact Tracey Dammer, Service Manager on 07528 970557 for an informal conversation.
