Aberlour continues to aspire to be a leading voice for the children, young people and families we support across Scotland. Our participative and personalised approach aims to elevate the voices of the children, young people and families we work with. We want to ensure that children, young people and families are empowered to inform and shape the care and support they receive, and the work of the organisation as a whole. We are looking for someone to help us continue to make sure the voices and experiences of children, young people and families are at the heart of everything we do.
At Aberlour all our work is informed directly by the UNCRC and we are committed to making children and young people’s human rights real. This includes a commitment to the keeping The Promise to Scotland’s children and young people by supporting the implementation of the Independent Care Review recommendations. Supporting and promoting the meaningful participation of the children, young people and families we work with is a fundamental part of how we achieve that. We aim to ensure that children, young people and families have their rights supported, promoted and protected, their voices listened to and views acted upon.
Working alongside the Head of Policy and Participation as part of the Participation Team, you will plan, develop and deliver a range of participation and engagement activities to support, promote and facilitate the views and experiences of children, young people and families we work with across Scotland, to inform Aberlour’s policy and campaigning work, as well as ensure those views and experiences help shape and influence the design and delivery of services and wider organisational developments.
You will have an awareness of the current Scottish political system and social policy relating to children, young people and families. You will ideally have experience working in one or more of the following areas: youth work; working with children and young people with disabilities or additional needs; working with care experienced children and young people; working with children and young people who have experienced adversity or trauma. You may yourself be care experienced. You will have a track record in planning and facilitating direct consultation and engagement with children and young people.
You will have the ability to think creatively, network successfully, form positive relationships and work in collaboration with others.
This half-time post working 18.75 hours per week will work on a flexible basis meeting the post holder’s availability and the needs of those being consulted with. We would very much welcome applications from those with care experience. At Aberlour we pride ourselves on being a fully inclusive organisation and so we actively encourage applications from the LGBT, BAME, disability communities.
