Role

Many vulnerable children and young people are unable to be supported sufficiently within their own homes and communities. However, by intervening earlier with person centred approaches we can support children and young people to remain at home rather than moving into residential care.

Aberlour, with support and funding from Angus Council, is establishing Sustain. This is an innovative and creative new service in Angus which focuses on supporting children and young people (age 5 – 11) on the ‘edge of care’ to remain and flourish in their local communities.

Using personalised and person-centred approaches and principles, the aim is to ensure that children, young people and families are supported to build on their strengths, assets and interests to develop enduring capacity and resilience. We also aim to support local professional stakeholders and communities to coproduce solutions.

Applicants should be enthusiastic, energetic and committed and, working in a culture based on respect, integrity, innovation and the ability to challenge, you will share our vision that collaborative early intervention and engagement is the best option for children and families who are on the ‘edge of care’. You will bring a fresh and collaborative approach to this service and, in discussion with the manager, be willing to try new approaches to ensure strong and trusting relationships are developed with families and stakeholders. You should be dynamic and creative and be able to deliver flexible, person-centred services to vulnerable children and families in a way which can be playful, warm, accepting, curious, tenacious and empathetic.

We are looking to recruit three full time workers and one part time worker, working 18.75 hours per week. You will have experience of direct practice within this field of work, including child/adult protection issues. Experience of working with children with additional support needs would be desirable but is not essential.

Based within a variety of settings including the service base, family homes, schools and community settings, you will work either individually or with groups of children, young people and parents / carers using an asset-based approach to build capacity and resilience.

As well as being involved in planning, designing and delivering appropriate work you will also assist in assessing and evaluating the services, maintain accurate records and contribute to reports.

Successful candidates will be required to manage their time in a way which balances the needs of children and families, the administrative requirements of the role as well as being able to work at times which may include weekends, evenings and public holidays.
