Role

FareShare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors aimed at relieving food poverty and reducing food waste in the UK. It does this by rescuing good quality surplus food that would otherwise have gone to waste and sending it to charity and community groups.

This post will focus on developing this network and surplus food distribution across Highlands, Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland.

Responsible to: FareShare Manager

We are looking for the right candidate who ideally has experience of community development, health & wellbeing, environmental issues or food poverty with strong communication and coordination skills, an existing network of relevant contacts, ability to work independently and the passion to successfully drive this initiative to reduce food insecurity in the Highland & Islands.

Period of employment: Initially until 31/7/21; it is intended the post will continue subject to finance.

Hours: 36.25 hours per week; flexibility required including potentially some weekend work and travelling (own transport essential)

Main Responsibilities:

  • Development of existing Community Food Member network in 4 Local Authority areas (Highland, Western Isles, Orkney, Shetland);
  • Support local networks and third sector partners to access surplus food, ensuring food safety compliance;
  • Develop and implement local action plan;
  • Building on existing relationships with third sector interfaces and local authorities;
  • Logistical planning, liaising closely with teams based in Aberdeen to ensure efficient food delivery;
  • Promotion and publicity of FareShare in H&I;
  • Preparation of reports to funders.
