We are looking for someone to join us to help preserve Scotland's Railway heritage by joining our Board of Trustees as our new Finance Director and Treasurer.

The Society’s exists to create and operate a national Museum of Scottish Railways and a working heritage railway. We do this by the operation of the Museum of Scottish Railways, an accredited collection of national significance; the operation of the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway, a five-mile long heritage; and SRPS Railtours, a subsidiary undertaking which runs mainline rail excursions throughout the UK and manages the retail operations.

You will be responsible for providing timely and pertinent management information together with relevant advice and support on all financial aspects of the Charity and its trading subsidiaries. You will also be responsible for producing the Annual Report and Accounts to comply with all relevant accounting, charity and tax regulations and liaising with Auditors as required. You will contribute to the development of forward planning through the preparation of appropriate business plans, budgets and cash forecasts encompassing all areas of the business, challenging assumptions and decision-making as appropriate and providing pertinent financial analysis and guidance as required.

The Board regularly meets six times a year and at other times as required. You will be a member of the Executive Committee, which is responsible for the day to day management of the Society. It meets for one morning every two weeks. You will be a member of the Finance and Audit Committee which meets as needed but at least four times a year, and the Remuneration Committee which meets annually to consider staff salaries. As Finance Director you may become involved in issues being considered by the three other principal Committees but you will not usually attend meetings of these. The Society’s office is in Bo’ness but much work can be undertaken remotely.

Scotland's railway fashioned the development of the industrial revolution in Scotland. Through our work in preserving that history in the Museum of Scottish Railways, and in demonstrating heritage vehicles in operation we are able to help people understand this major part of our history. We also help create memories for young and old by attendance at our Days out With Thomas and other special events and our very popular Santa Polar Express trains. You will have a key role in helping us to achieve our charitable aims and continue our work in creating memories
