Glasgow Night Shelter (SCO47169) has provided somewhere safe and warm for destitute asylum seekers to stay overnight, 365 nights a year, since 2011. We’ll be around as long as we’re needed, but we speak out for an end to destitution.
It’s an exciting time for the Glasgow Night Shelter, and we are looking to build our team to get ready to deliver Scotland’s first 24-hour holistic accommodation service for destitute asylum seekers.
In partnership with other refugee and homelessness organisations, we are embarking on a major project not only to transform our own service but to change the way the needs of homeless asylum seekers are met. With support from a range of funders, we will pilot new types of accommodation and ensure that the experiences of asylum seekers in Scotland are what guide practice.
We need dynamic, creative and reliable team members to provide the best possible service. You’ll show compassion and empathy, with some experience of working with people affected by homelessness and, although it’s not essential, an understanding of the experiences of those affected by the asylum process in the UK would be really helpful.
We’re looking for people who know how to safely maintain boundaries but who get stuck in to their workload. We want to hear from people who work in a person-centred way and focus on maximising personal choice. We are keen on creative thinking, new ideas and what life has taught you, as well as professional experience.
There will be a range of shifts and hours available and these roles may also suit social care and social work students who want to gain some practical experience during your studies.
