Midlothian Young Peoples Advice Service (MYPAS) promotes the health and wellbeing of young people across East Lothian and Midlothian and currently focuses on working in the areas of mental health and substance use. MYPAS is a community-based organisation with charitable status and based in Dalkeith.

The postholder will be responsible for providing counselling with children and young people aged 10-18 who reside in East Lothian. The postholder will assist in establishing, developing, delivering, evaluating and reporting on, the School Counselling service.

Qualified to Diploma level in a Counselling therapeutic discipline, a member of a recognised professional body (either BACP or COSCA) and have experience of working with children and young people, you will also be committed to delivering a service according to best practice and within community settings.

The postholder will work within a multi-disciplinary environment and work effectively with other agencies, especially schools, in partnership settings.

MYPAS will deliver a School Counselling service across East Lothian. MYPAS is providing this service on a contract basis for East Lothian Council.

This post may require evening and occasional weekend work.

· The post is funded for an initial fixed term until 31st March 2023 (This is a three year agreement with the option of 2 additional periods of 1 year extensions). The post may involve evening and occasional weekend working.

· You must be able to travel across East Lothian.

The administrative base is in Dalkeith. Travel throughout East Lothian including operating from other venues, will be required.

What does the role involve?

• Working independently with young people, but also as part of a team of support.
• Providing emotional support and linking in with service delivery teams to ensure an appropriate response to our young people or their families.
• The opportunity to work directly with our young people and their families in their communities.

The ideal candidates should be able to commit to a minimum of 5 hours per week with a view to working more hours as and when required (including evenings and weekends). As sessional Mentors work directly with young people and families in the community there is a requirement that you can drive and have access to a car for work purposes.

• To be registered or become registered with SSSC and hold or be willing to work toward an SVQ2 in a relevant discipline (qualifications are fully funded by Includem)

The Board are responsible for setting the strategic direction of the organisation to deliver the charitable objectives. As a member of the Board of Trustees you will be responsible for ensuring the effective oversight and governance within the organisation for the benefit of the vulnerable young people we support.

Open Door have an experienced management team who are responsible for the day-to-day management and service delivery of the organisation’s support staff. The Board will be responsible for the supervision of the Chief Executive to take overall responsibility for the organisation, acting collectively and effectively in its interests by giving strategic direction and determining our mission and vision. The Board make decisions required for assurance and management of the organisation, ensuring compliance, good governance and adequate financial resources for our services whilst protecting our assets and property. The Board also ensure we manage risks carefully, as a responsible employer and uphold the principles of equality and diversity.

Board meetings are held on a monthly to six weekly basis, typically in the evening.

We currently have a vacancy in our Glasgow Justice Team for a Temporary Project Workers (12 month temporary contract) who really believes in young people, is flexible regarding hours of work and can help us to deliver Includem’s innovative approach.

What does the role involve?

You will deliver one to one support to young people and their families in their own homes and communities. You will assist in case management, including contributing to support planning and risk assessment and work with other professionals in the young person’s life to deliver positive, sustainable change.

All posts require individuals to:

• Work flexibly to meet the demands of the service, involving regular weekend and evening work;

• Develop safe, professional and committed relationships with young people and families

• Use their communication skills effectively to influence, record and evidence positive change and provide personalised, risk enabled, professional support

• Be able to drive and have access to your own vehicle for work purposes

• Membership of PVG scheme (paid for by Includem)

• To be registered or become registered with SSSC and hold or be willing to work toward HNC Social Care and SVQ 3 in Social Care or equivalent (qualifications are fully funded by Includem)
