Around since 1923, SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity. We have represented the voice of people most affected by mental health problems in Scotland for almost 100 years. Today, in over 60 communities we work with adults and young people providing mental health social care support, services in primary care, schools and further education, among others.

These services together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention and active living; inform our policy and campaign work to influence positive social change. About the Role

SAMH has a well established reputation for delivering excellent support to people with mental health problems throughout Dundee. Our Care at Home service has a purpose built specialist supported accommodation project in the heart of the city. We are seeking outstanding and motivated people to deliver the service and provide support to people with enduring mental illnesses and complex needs to regain their independence and improve their self-resilience and self-management skills.

What we are looking for

The Senior Practitioner will play an important part in establishing ongoing relationships between staff and service users.

The Senior practitioner will:

  • Provide direction and guidance to a team of Practitioners supporting individuals in the accommodation to improve their mental health and wellbeing.
  • Work with service users to define their own action plans and coordinate, evaluate and review this support
  • Provide practice supervision and mentorship to Practitioner staff within the team and highlight areas for development and training needs to Service Manager.
  • Maintain the highest personal and professional standards. Work professionally and collaboratively with internal and external colleagues, those who use our services and members of the public and to meet the requirements of funders and regulators.
  • Undertake personal responsibility for conduct and work ethic in line with SAMH Code of Conduct, the SSSC Codes of Practice and other relevant professional standards.
  • Be responsible for the Co-ordination, assessments, monitoring and review for individuals using the service,
  • Act as the key contact and develop positive relationships with individuals, families, multi-agency teams and communities.

As the post will involve a variety of shift patterns including evening, weekends, waking night shift and on-calls. You will be flexible in the hours and shifts you are available to work.

The successful candidate will ideally hold a SVQ3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent, or the willingness to undertake this.

You will be able to demonstrate good communication skills and a mature attitude together with adaptability and enthusiasm. Knowledge and experience in supporting people with mental health problems is desirable as is experience working with people who have had long term hospital admissions. Whatever your background, a flexible caring approach combined with good practical skills will be essential.
