Fallin Community Enterprises is a Scottish charity & business limited by guarantee operating as a Social Enterprise. Recyke-a-bike is a project of Fallin Community Enterprises where the main business is recycling bicycles and delivering cycle related training and activities that will not just reduce the impact of waste on the environment, but will also generate jobs, provide training and opportunities within the Forth Valley.

The purpose of this role is to support the delivery of the Bikeability programme in partnership with Cycling Scotland and Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire local authorities. In addition, supporting the delivery of all cycling based activities delivered by the Recyke-a-Bike team

We are Community Gift Exchange, a South Ayrshire based charity that’s working towards abolishing poverty in our community and towards a greener Ayrshire.

From woodwork and bike mechanics to administration and retail, our trainees gain experience in a plethora of different skills that will help them overcome their barriers and enter the world of work.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with woodworking and restoration skills and experience to join us as our Restoration Workshop Supervisor.

Our Restoration Workshop hosts volunteers who are looking to gain skills and experience to help them further along their journey to a career in joinery, woodwork, carpentry, and more. We also take in donated furniture which is given some TLC in the workshop (by the Restoration Works team and volunteers) and is then sold on in our furniture shop to be given a second chance.

You will be responsible for the supervision and encouragement of volunteers and staff in the workshop, assigning tasks and ensuring health and safety regulations are being followed throughout sessions. An important part of this role is planning and leading sessions for volunteers and trainees to come into the workshop and learn skills and gain experience. You will also be responsible for restoring donated furniture pieces to be sold in our shops, so the ability to manage targets and a variety of tasks is essential.

Sustainable Selkirk is a project initiated and managed by Selkirk Regeneration SCIO, a community-based charitable organisation in the Scottish Borders. This post is funded by The National Lottery Community Led Fund to tackle one of Selkirk Regeneration’s prime objectives, bringing benefit to the people of Selkirk and surroundings through sustainable development towards a low-carbon future.

Sustainable Selkirk supports the community in Selkirk and surrounding area to make sustainable lifestyle changes through home energy savings, sustainable travel, climate awareness, climate action and recycling.

Since it began in June 2020, Sustainable Selkirk has delivered:

• the Selkirk Community Energy Advice Centre
• home energy assessments, advice and visits
• e-bike trials
• talks and workshops on various aspects of practical sustainability
• led walks in and around Selkirk
• fuel-efficient driving training
• bike maintenance classes

The project is funded until March 2024 by The National Lottery’s Community Led Fund and Together For Our Planet Fund, and subject to additional funding, will grow further and continue beyond this point.

THE PROJECT MANAGER:

The Project Manager will assist Selkirk Regeneration in leading and managing Sustainable Selkirk, to raise awareness of energy, transport and other climate-related issues. The Project Manager will have responsibility for developing, implementing and managing actions in response to these issues, including managing the Selkirk Community Energy Advice Centre and its staff and volunteers.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

The Project Manger, on behalf of Selkirk Regeneration, will be responsible for developing and implementing detailed action plans within the local community, including the following specific tasks:

• engage with local community groups, including young people, on energy- and climate-related issues
• plan and implement a programme of meetings / information events to raise awareness of energy and climate issues, how to achieve home energy savings and to promote low-carbon and active travel
• encourage and co-ordinate local community participation in measures to reduce Selkirk’s carbon footprint
• evaluate and keep records of all events, visits, meetings and the resultant carbon reduction outcomes
• assist in recruiting and managing staff and volunteers to implement a range of project tasks
• day-to-day management of the Project budget
• provide regular Project progress reports to the Selkirk Regeneration Board of Trustees
• engage with the media to raise the profile of the project
• advise on possible funding to secure sustainable continuation of the project
• support and promote Selkirk Regeneration’s aims and activities within the community

The Team

Our Consultancy team are leaders in the industry and provide expert analysis and insight across the sustainability agenda. The team works across a range of disciplines including analysing housing stock and applying the latest insights in behavioural science, with monitoring and evaluation specialists evidencing the impact of projects.

The team carry out research and support projects to make a low carbon lifestyle a reality for all. This can include area-based projects focused on domestic energy efficiency and a range of other decarbonisation projects involving low carbon heat and renewables.

The Role

Your role will ensure our work continues to be underpinned by outstanding research and analysis. You’ll use your excellent grounding in qualitative and quantitative research techniques to conduct both technical and social research that underpins reports and recommendations for clients.

Using your keen eye for detail you’ll ensure that the research the team produces and maintains the highest quality. Whether this is when you are conducting interviews, developing and analysing surveys, or carrying out desk research – you’ll be using your clear communication skills to ensure data is gathered and analysed effectively.

The research you undertake and support on is critical to Changeworks achieving its strategic aim to accelerate the decarbonisation of Scotland’s home to help tackle climate change. Your work will lead to positive change for the environment as well as people, their wellbeing, and the homes they live in.
