Development Worker – Dementia Friendly Musselburgh

Role
Dementia Friendly East Lothian and the Musselburgh Area Partnership share a vision of Musselburgh as place where people living with dementia and unpaid carers are valued and respected members of our community. We are passionate that dementia is about everyone. Whilst this is a serious project with serious outcomes, creating fun, joy and togetherness are important outcomes and key to success.
Dementia Friendly Musselburgh will support communities across the Musselburgh Area to be informed about dementia and enabled to create inclusive and empowering places for all. It will link closely with the Musselburgh Meeting Centre we are setting up with East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership.
As Development Worker, you will play a key role in helping us realise our shared hopes and aspirations, working with people living with dementia, unpaid carers/supporters and communities across the Musselburgh Area and the Musselburgh Health and Well Being Group.

Your role is to:
- Promote and support the development of Musselburgh as a Dementia Friendly Community
- Ensure people living with dementia and unpaid carers/supporters are full, active and equal participants, including as volunteers.
- Work in partnership with the Musselburgh Health and Well-being Group, Connected Communities and VCEL to identify and deliver actions that tangibly improve lives and develop volunteering
- Organise and run events, activities and communications that inspire and support our aspirations for Musselburgh and which build strong and enabling relationships across and within the community, all ages
- Manage the project and required reporting and any financial monitoring.
About you:
We are looking for the right person for this challenging and rewarding post/project, so there are no essential qualifications. Where the successful candidate requires training, this will be provided free, in work time as part of the post.

You should have at least 2 years relevant experience and be able to demonstrate skills in some or all aspects of the post. We would like you to demonstrate and give practical examples from any area of your life. Ideally we would like you to demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of Musselburgh, from your experience or knowledge.
Please draw on all your relevant experience. We value and recognise skills and experience gained through self-management, unpaid work, paid work, volunteering and your personal life. Ideally this experience is round dementia, but we know that there are many similarities with living with and supporting other long-term conditions
We do not expect you to be an expert in all these areas! We will provide training and support as part of your development in the post.

Collective Advocacy Worker – “Oor Mad History” project

CAPS is looking for a new Collective Advocacy worker to facilitate the Oor Mad History collective advocacy project. Building on the successful launch of the recent book, “Oor Mad History: Ten Years On” this role will help the collective advocacy group members to identify their next challenge.
As well as helping the group create a community course around Madness as part of our Education as Advocacyprogramme and developing the 30+ year old archive of the Mental Health User Movement in Lothian, you will be led by people in the group to take forward other identified actions, and make sure their views and wishes are expressed.
You will work collaboratively with the team at Queen Margaret University who are delivering Mad People’s History and Identity and the Mad Studies MSc., connecting with students and encouraging activism as people draw on their experiences and learning to bring about change.
The role offers autonomy and flexibility, working as part of our enthusiastic team of Collective Advocacy workers. You should be friendly and approachable, with the ability to form trusting relationships with group members and colleagues. Some working from home is possible and regularly attending meetings in and around Edinburgh will be necessary. Community Activities Organiser - Moray

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to work within Alzheimer Scotland as a Community Activities Organiser in Moray. The Community Activities Organiser will work closely with our Dementia Advisor to develop activities and groups that respond to the needs of the local community. The post holder will work in partnership with colleagues, people with dementia and their families to:
- Plan, develop and facilitate a wide range of therapeutic and social activities
- Promote activities through social media and other platforms
- Review and evaluate activities providing regular reports of outcomes
Alzheimer Scotland take a blended approach to community groups, delivering a combination of online groups as well as in person. Proficiency and confidence in using and supporting use of digital platforms and social media are essential for this role.
Successful candidates will have a positive approach to dementia supported by excellent communication and networking skills and an empathic, positive attitude. Having a creative flair and being a self-starter would also be an advantage as well as having experience of working with people with dementia. A willingness to develop through ongoing learning is essential.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required and a driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential to the role.
Collective Advocacy Worker – mental health experience led projects

Community Connexions Outreach Worker - Fife

Since 1981, Alzheimer Scotland has been campaigning for the rights and promoting the physical, mental and emotional well-being of people living with dementia, their families and carers.
The Community Connexions Outreach Worker role is central to our success, in providing people living with dementia with practical support, advice and access to resources, activities, groups and other community programmes that will sustain, as far as is possible, peoples’ independence, existing lifestyle and relationships.
The key role of the Outreach Worker is to:
• Meet with, and build relationships with people living with dementia, their families and carers and analyse their outcomes in order to understand the support they need to promote their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
• Act as a local resource for people living with dementia within a short intervention model; helping people build their confidence and navigate through the health and social care system; facilitating their access to appropriate services and support within the community.
• Work with the Community Connexions Senior Practitioner in facilitating a range of therapeutic interventions on an individual or group basis. i.e., Cognitive stimulation; Reminiscence; Memory rehabilitation techniques; Validation; Use of music/art/horticulture and pet therapies etc.
• Initiate, develop and maintain effective working relationships with other professionals working in the field of dementia in the local voluntary, statutory and private sectors.
• Record and monitor all work undertaken and produce regular progress reports to enable effective evaluation of the impact of outreach work on the person living with dementia, and the overall Community Connexions Service.
• Work with the Head of Operations, Service Manager and Community Connexions Senior Practitioner to identify gaps in the provision of outreach services for people living with dementia and their carers, sharing good practice with existing services.
• Promote positive attitudes in public services, and in the local community by providing information to raise awareness of the practical, psychological and emotional impact of living with dementia, and how people can support others to achieve their outcomes.
The Successful candidate will:
• Be flexible, self-motivated and dynamic with excellent communication and influencing skills, and ability to work effectively without close supervision.
• Have a proven track record of experience in each of the above elements of the role.
• Be committed to collaborative working and learning from others.
• Be experienced and show a good understanding of best practice in organising the provision of practical advice, support and access to resources for people living with dementia, their families and carers.
• Have achieved or be working towards a recognised professional qualification in social services and healthcare to a minimum of SVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
• Have a full and valid UK driving licence and access to a car during working hours.
This role will cover an area of the Fife Locality and ideally be based locally. A driving licence and access to a car during working hours is essential.
