Role

The Scottish Union of Supported Employment (SUSE) is recruiting new Trustees for our board including a new Chairperson. We are particularly keen on applications from people with a strong background in finance, business operations, business development or human resources.

About SUSE

The Scottish Union of Supported Employment (SUSE) is the national representative body for supported employment providers and anyone interested in ensuring that disadvantaged people across our country have the opportunity of a working life. We bring organisations together to campaign, network, improve how we work and share our experiences. Our aim is to support people with disadvantages to find and retain paid work by increasing the availability, quality and impact of supported employment services in Scotland.

The SUSE Website

You can find out more about what we do by visiting suse.org.uk This will also link you through to our various social media platforms.

The SUSE Board

The SUSE board is mainly drawn from our membership who are employability providers with expertise in supporting disabled people to find and retain paid employment. Trustees normally serve for 3 years and can be invited to extend their tenure when this is appropriate. Moving forward we are keen to enhance the range of skills and experience on our board by recruiting Trustees with a diverse range of backgrounds. We strongly welcome applications from disabled people and those living with long term conditions.

The Candidates

To help us in the next stage of the charity’s development we are looking for people with expertise in the following areas:

  • Finance
  • Employability
  • Business Operations
  • Human Resources
  • Business Development

No previous board experience is necessary as extensive mentoring and training will be provided.

What We Offer

We offer excellent training and development opportunities and will reimburse travel expenses. Mentoring support from existing board members and SUSE staff is offered to facilitate a positive onboarding experience for new Trustees.

What Is Required

The board of SUSE normally meet on a quarterly basis, usually in the late afternoon or early evening. The successful candidate may also be required to attend some additional meetings or events throughout the year such as our AGM.

Recently the board have been meeting virtually via Teams but we anticipate more face to face meetings in the year ahead. This may be at our office in Kirkintilloch or at a suitable venue.

Board members are also asked to offer occasion support for the charity’s activities such as participating in short life working groups when these are necessary.
