We now have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Finance and Corporate Operations to join the CNPA, to head the Finance, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Corporate Governance functions of the Authority, working with the Director of Corporate Services & Deputy Chief Executive.
The Role:
As the Head of Finance and Corporate Operations you will take lead responsibility for managing a programme of work to deliver over time a series of agreed outcomes within the National Park Authority’s Corporate Plan. You will also be accountable for direct managerial control of staff and financial resources. This means you will develop a real understanding of the inner workings of the Authority.
You will lead, develop and inspire your staff to make their contribution to the delivery of the National Park Partnership Plan, and Corporate and Operational Plans in an enthusiastic, dedicated, efficient and professional way, meaning you will be confident in managing your team to give the best possible service provision.
You will take lead responsibility for identifying dependencies whereby successful delivery of your programme of work will require input and/or delivery of outputs from elsewhere in the organisation and take a lead on required internal communications and negotiations required to secure resources required from other areas of the organisation. This means that you will have opportunities to develop great working relationships with colleagues across the wider organisation.

About You:
To be considered as our Head of Finance and Corporate Operations, you’ll need:
- The post-holder must be either a finance or ICT professional, holding either a CCAB accountancy qualification or a professional ICT qualification,
- The post-holder must show a demonstrable capacity to establish strategic plans and lead teams across both finance and ICT disciplines;
- The post-holder must have experience of managing staff, and demonstrable ability to lead, motivate and develop staff in a multi-disciplinary team;
- The post-holder must have the capacity to work autonomously of frequent senior management supervision;
- The post-holder must be able to demonstrate ability to make sound judgements on the handling of controversial and sensitive issues;
- The post holder must have an understanding of programme management principles, and in particular be sensitive to and have demonstrable experience of managing issues around programme resourcing where elements of finance and staff resource required, or where delivery of some required outputs, may be dependent on the cooperation of other managers within the organisation;
- The post-holder must have demonstrable expertise and knowledge of their programme area and evidence the skills and experience to support their delivery of the role;
- The post-holder must be articulate, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and,
- Full UK driving licence or access to a driver if disability prevents driving.

The charities Animal Concern Limited and Animal Concern Advice Line can trace their history back to 1876. Our Secretary and Campaigner for the last 42 years has to take early retirement due to ill health and we need someone new to run both the administration and campaign sides of our work.
We need someone with experience in charity administration. Animal Concern is also a not for profit Limited Company.
Of most importance is a genuine concern for animal welfare and rights. Animal Concern campaigns under the banner “Legislate to Liberate”. We and our supporters lobby politicians, commercial concerns and policy makers to try and improve the lot of animals in all areas where they are exploited. Over the last 42 years we have made a point of highlighting issues which most other organisations did not campaign on. As a small organisation we avoid duplicating the work of other groups and target our resources at issues others have yet to embrace.
Among many other positive campaigns we were responsible for banning the giving of goldfish and other animals as prizes in Scotland. We rescued death sentenced bears from a closing safari park, closed down the Scottish end of a horrific international research project using primates, obtained the only prosecution of a seal shooting salmon farmer and were heavily involved in restricting the use of airguns in Scotland.
We have a long list of objectives we have yet to accomplish and we need the right person to help us achieve those aims.

Scottish Land Commission
The ways we own and use land impact many parts of lives from the price and availability of housing, impacts of derelict sites in the heart of communities, meeting our climate targets or simply giving people the means and confidence to build businesses and functioning communities. The Scottish Land Commission stimulates fresh thinking in the ways we own and use land in Scotland. We are a public body, established by the Scottish Parliament in 2017, and our role is to advise on changes in policy and law, and to support good practice and change on the ground.
The Commission’s strategic plan 2020-23 sets out our three strategic objectives:

- More of Scotland’s people are able to influence and benefit from decisions about land

The Role
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Head of Communications and Corporate Services will be a member of the Commission’s management team, working closely with the board and managing a team of staff to deliver effective communications and corporate functions. The post will lead a strategic approach to communications across the organisation, leading our communications and engagement with the public and stakeholder organisations.
The post will also oversee our corporate support functions, managing the corporate team to ensure good governance in our finance, audit and administration support. As a member of the management team, this person will work collaboratively to provide organisational leadership, shaping our culture and managing our delivery and performance.
Key Duties
- Lead and advise Commissioners on our communications strategy and approach to engagement, building the reputation and increasing the profile of the Commission and the role of land reform in contributing to Scotland’s ambitions.
- Lead delivery of the communications and organisational development programmes within our business plans.
- Lead and develop a creative approach to public and stakeholder engagement across the organisation that joins up our work and connects with a wide range of people.
- Lead the organisation’s commitment to continuous organisational improvement and development, including regular staff engagement, effective internal policies and ways of working.
- Responsible for the organisation’s commitment to staff wellbeing, support and training and development.
- As a part of the management team, co-ordinate the strategic planning, resourcing and reporting of workstreams to deliver our Strategic Plan.
- Build a strong reputation and profile for the Commission including representing the Commission regularly at a senior level with stakeholders, Scottish Government, Parliament, public meetings and events.
- Lead effective internal communications to support valuable staff engagement across the organisation.
- Oversee implementation of corporate governance and business systems, supporting the Audit & Risk Committee, internal and external auditors and the finance and data management.
- Hold delegated budget responsibility ensuring that expenditure is planned in accordance with the Commission’s budget requirements and procurement principles.
The Person
The successful candidate will hold a relevant degree or have equivalent professional experience. They will have experience of designing and delivering creative and effective communications with a proven ability to lead a strategic programme of public and stakeholder communications to deliver organisational impact. They must have experience of creative approaches to public and stakeholder engagement with a proven ability to articulate complex messages to a variety of audiences with exemplary written and verbal communication skills.
The candidate will have strong management skills and the proven ability to manage and empower a staff team. They will have the ability to work as part of a management team providing organisational leadership. They will have experience of business planning and budget management as well as a willingness to learn and take on new areas of responsibility and to travel to fulfil the requirements of the post.
The standard working week is a 5-day week, Monday to Friday, of 37 hours. Flexible working is available and both part-time and full-time applications are welcomed. The Commission expects to move to a 35 hour working week during the current financial year.

This post will play a key role in our National Management Team and will help ensure the efficient running of the organisation. The postholder will support the Senior Leadership Team with special projects that will enhance and support the continual development and improvement of the organisation.
