About Aberlour Glasgow Early Intervention Service

Our new Aberlour Glasgow Early Intervention Service will work in partnership with children and young people (aged 12 years and under) and their families to develop relationship-based, strengths-focused whole family support.

What we are looking for....

We are looking to recruit a Service Administrator to join your new Aberlour Glasgow Intensive Family Support Service who will work 18.75 hours per week, ideally working at the beginning of the week, availability can be discussed at interview. As a Service Administrator you will provide a key role within each of our service. As Service Administrator you will support the service with general and financial administrative tasks including supporting the team using our recording system- Dynamics. You will have administrative experience gained through working within a busy office or social care environment. You will be comfortable working with Microsoft Office packages including Excel and be able to create spreadsheets and deal with numerical information. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills. You will have a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or equivalent experience of working in a busy office.

Who are we?

Families Outside is the only national charity in Scotland that works solely to support families affected by imprisonment. We are dedicated to providing a range of practical, social and emotional support to children, young people and other family members with someone in prison. This support is relationship-based, prison-aware, and family-focused.

What do we want?

We are now recruiting for the three following posts:

• Support & Participation Coordinator (West) x 28 hours to cover Glasgow, W.Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire and N.Ayrshire areas
• Support & Participation Coordinator (North) x 21 hours to cover Perth & Kinross, Aberdeen and Inverness areas

Each Coordinator will be responsible for developing a wide-ranging support and participation programme, working alongside family members with a relative in prison. At a time of growth for our organisation this is an exciting opportunity to work in collaboration with a small team, with responsibility for delivering local, targeted support for wider family participation and engagement. The right candidate(s) will develop, facilitate and evaluate engagement with families, develop resources and materials, and support and manage volunteers.

With experience of working with children, young people and families in the community, the Support & Participation Coordinators will also have experience of planning and delivering group work, as well as the ability to work independently but also committed to working with and supporting others as part of a wider team.

Imprisonment can often have a huge impact on the things that matter most to families: money and secure housing, safe and connected relationships at home and in the community, and the emotional health and wellbeing of families. Families Outside is dedicated to providing a range of practical, social, and emotional support to people with someone in prison that are relationship-based, prison-aware, and family-focused.

As part of an exciting new partnership project with our colleagues at Barnardo’s Scotland, the Families Outside Family Support Worker will work to improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people and their families in Edinburgh. We will address the social and family adversities that children and young people who have a family member in prison face to ensure they are safe, healthy, included, and achieving at home, school, and in the community.

Our Family Support Worker will:

• Support children, young people, and families at home and in their community via 1:1, family, and group work.
• Work closely with key professionals including prison staff and prison visitor centre staff to provide advice, information, and guidance to families and professionals on a range of issues.
• Support a caseload and address individual and family needs, referring to appropriate local services (i.e. housing, health, welfare) as required.
• Support families to be involved in relevant case conferences and decision-making fora where possible.

We are looking for a Family Support Worker who is:

• Experienced in working with and alongside children, young people, and families in creative and flexible ways
• Highly motivated and enthusiastic, but also passionate about developing and delivering quality, engaging, and fun activities that are accessible to children and young people across Edinburgh
• Confident in managing risk and ensuring children and young people are safe at home and in the community
• Focused on the rights of children and young people in their work and all they do
• Trauma-informed and understands the impact of imprisonment upon children, young people, and families
• Confident in working within GIRFEC approaches and is an effective contributor to multi-agency work with other professionals to meet the needs of children, young people, and families.

Be part of the change you want to see for child victims and witnesses in Scotland

In partnership, Children 1st are developing Scotland’s first Bairns Hoose based on the European Barnahus model. Barnahus is a child-friendly, multidisciplinary, and interagency model of justice, care and recovery for children who are victims and witnesses of all forms of violence. A place where all Police, Social Work, Health and Court services are based under one roof. Children receive a coordinated trauma responsive plan to support their journey through the care, protection, and justice system. The aim of the model is to; prevent re-traumatisation caused by delayed and disjointed investigation and court proceedings, to keep children safe, allow them access to fair justice and to help them recover from the trauma of their ordeal. Barnahus aims to place the best interests of the child at the centre of all the systems that are there to protect them and to offer the child and their family or caregivers all the support they need.

Base

You will be working in a Hybrid way - combining home based working and working from one of our Children 1st services in North Strathclyde/Glasgow while you help to design and open our first Bairns Hoose in East Renfrewshire. The role will involve travelling across the North Strathclyde area (East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, Renfrewshire) to meet with young people and families in their homes, schools and local community.
