Role
PAPYRUS is the national UK charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people.
We are looking to recruit an Area Manager to create and cultivate sustainable community services across Scotland to contribute to PAPYRUS creating suicide-safer communities for young people across the whole of the UK.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Proven experience of building, managing and enabling a successful team
- Experience of identifying new approaches to underpin strategy, progressing new opportunities and translating these into sustainable, funded projects in the community
- Previous experience of preparing a budget, securing funding for projects/ programmes and having financial accountability for successful implementation
- Experience of managing complex projects with a positive impact on social change.
- Proven track record of successfully building, developing and managing effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders in the community, voluntary, statutory and political settings
- Proven experience of effective working as part of a management group
- A Bachelor Degree Level or equivalent professional qualification in Leadership, Management, Health, Social Care, Social Sciences, Education, Business Development, Community Work, or Public Health

We are looking for a creative, confident, and experienced individual to join us at Families Outside to work on a new initiative, working directly with the families we support, to develop a wide-ranging support and participation programme.
Who are we?
Families Outside is the only national charity in Scotland that works solely to support families affected by imprisonment. We are dedicated to providing a range of practical, social and emotional support to children, young people and other family members with someone in prison. This support is relationship-based, prison-aware, and family-focused.
What do we want?
We are now recruiting for a new post within Families Outside at a time of growth for our organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to work in collaboration with a small team, with responsibility for developing a national programme for peer support, wider family participation, and volunteering. The post will have line management responsibility for a small team of Support & Participation Coordinators based in the West, North, and East of Scotland.
With a solid background in leadership including experience of personal development and objective setting, the Support & Participation Manager will also have experience of developing and managing volunteer services, embedding policy and practice and recording and producing evaluation reports. They will need to have excellent communication skills and the ability to set priorities for their own work and for the work of others.
However, this is a newly created position and isn’t limited in remit. Your role will be varied, and you’ll build relationships across a network of partners and volunteers, allowing you to use your initiative to support key activities and stakeholders.

The post holder must be highly motivated, be able to use initiative, possess excellent communication and networking skills, demonstrate success and experience working at strategic level with policy makers, providers, regulators, people supported by services and carers. Qualifications and experience at a senior management level would be a significant advantage.
The post holder will be expected to create and support significant collaborations across the independent care sector while contributing to the development of new care pathways which will result in the delivery of improved outcomes for people who access care and support. The post holder will ensure the Independent Sector’s contribution is fundamental to integrated services and transformational change and be able to evidence their impact. The role requires considerable and skilful collaboration with our key partners in the NHS, Local Authority, Carers, third sector organisations and other forums.
West Lothian is a progressive partnership and invests heavily in this post and the Independent Sector.
The post is home based with travel, where necessary, and is hosted by Scottish Care.

Elpis Trust provides accommodation and support in North-West Glasgow for 18 young women (aged 16 – 24) who are Care Experienced, have been affected by homelessness or have been unaccompanied asylum seekers. Our dedicated staff team, with a focus on overall wellbeing, provide personal and life skills and mental health support to help young women transition to independence. We work closely with Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership, Maryhill Housing Association – and funders including Bank of Scotland Foundation, The Robertson Trust, Agnes M Hunter Trust and the Volant Foundation – to really make a difference to the lives of the young women.
As one of our residents said ‘Thanks you for all you have done and how much you have helped me. When I first arrived, I was lost, hurt and confused. But you all helped show me who I was and what I could do if I believed. I will never forget you’.
Elpis is 50 years old in 2024 and in an exciting period of development as we plan a new service for young mothers and their babies, alongside strengthening organisational governance and functioning. We are looking for energetic people to help us deliver our Strategic Plan 2021 – 2024 by joining our committed team of Board Members / Trustees.
