The Role
Scottish Women’s Aid team has an exciting opportunity to join their team as a Policy Officer. The links between domestic abuse and women’s poverty are clear. With the cost of living crisis escalating, women and children experiencing domestic abuse are facing increasing poverty. The focus of this Policy Officer role over the next year will be on leading our work on social security and poverty reduction, to ensure that SWA is well placed to continue to influence and respond effectively.
The Organisation
Scottish Women’s Aid is Scotland’s leading voluntary sector organisation working to prevent domestic abuse and promote effective policy and practice responses for women, children and young people who experience domestic abuse. We are the umbrella organisation for 34 autonomous Women’s Aid groups delivering direct services to women, children, and young people across Scotland.
What You’ll Do
The Policy Officer will monitor the changing policy and legislative landscape in Scotland in relation to domestic abuse and women’s and children’s poverty with a special focus on social security policy. Working with a diverse range of stakeholders to identify and influence key policy areas relevant to SWA and its member organisations, the role holder will build and maintain effective relationships and alliances to aid in providing solutions, contributing to an evidence-based approach to the development of relevant public policy and strategy.
What We Need
The successful candidate will have experience of working on social policy and of a gender analysis of policy. You will have a good understanding of the causes, consequences and solutions to poverty and an understanding of a gendered analysis of domestic abuse. You will be a confident networker with strong public speaking skills and the ability to influence at all levels.
