The Role
Scottish Women’s Aid team has an exciting opportunity to join their team as a Policy Officer. The links between domestic abuse and women’s poverty are clear. With the cost of living crisis escalating, women and children experiencing domestic abuse are facing increasing poverty. The focus of this Policy Officer role over the next year will be on leading our work on social security and poverty reduction, to ensure that SWA is well placed to continue to influence and respond effectively.
The Organisation
Scottish Women’s Aid is Scotland’s leading voluntary sector organisation working to prevent domestic abuse and promote effective policy and practice responses for women, children and young people who experience domestic abuse. We are the umbrella organisation for 34 autonomous Women’s Aid groups delivering direct services to women, children, and young people across Scotland.
What You’ll Do
The Policy Officer will monitor the changing policy and legislative landscape in Scotland in relation to domestic abuse and women’s and children’s poverty with a special focus on social security policy. Working with a diverse range of stakeholders to identify and influence key policy areas relevant to SWA and its member organisations, the role holder will build and maintain effective relationships and alliances to aid in providing solutions, contributing to an evidence-based approach to the development of relevant public policy and strategy.
What We Need
The successful candidate will have experience of working on social policy and of a gender analysis of policy. You will have a good understanding of the causes, consequences and solutions to poverty and an understanding of a gendered analysis of domestic abuse. You will be a confident networker with strong public speaking skills and the ability to influence at all levels.
We’re looking for someone who has
- A sound knowledge and understanding of a gendered analysis of domestic abuse and the impact of domestic abuse on women, children and young people
- Knowledge of the issues, policies and legislation within Scotland affecting women, children and young people who experience domestic abuse
- Skill in interpreting and presenting complex issues to a variety of audiences
- A positive track record of working effectively with diverse stakeholders including policy makers, practitioners and researchers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to plan effectively to meet strategic aims

What You’ll Do
We are seeking to appoint a Finance Officer to provide a professional finance function and support us to operate as a sustainable charity and responsible employer. You will be responsible for the day to day management of Zero Tolerance’s financial systems and lead on development of organisational and project budgets, as well as provide quarterly management accounts and compile quarterly Board finance reports. The Finance Officer will also provide financial information to support funding bids and other regulatory requirements.
What We Need
With excellent financial acumen, attention to detail and the ability to present financial information clearly to a range of audiences, the successful candidate will have a sound understanding of office practices and procedures. You’ll have practical bookkeeping experience and thorough knowledge and understanding of financial systems including use of financial software. You will also have:
- Understanding of budget and forecast management techniques
- Confidence in liaising on financial matters with external partners
- Ability to organise and manage own work to meet deadlines under pressure and work flexibly in response to changing priorities
- Excellent IT skills, with good working knowledge of MS Office and advanced user of Excel
What We Offer
As well as a competitive salary, we offer an excellent pension scheme (6% employers’ contribution) and 28 days annual leave plus 10 public holidays. We have a flexible working hours policy, and actively encourage continuous professional development for all our employees. We also offer annual pay progression, and operate a grading structure based on four salary bands. Fife Women’s Aid are looking to recruit a full-time Crisis Support worker to join our Women’s Support Team.
This role will provide information, advice, advocacy, and support to women who contact Fife Women’s Aid as well as carrying out trauma informed assessment and intervention. The Crisis Support Worker will provide short-term intervention to meet immediate needs.
Applicants for this role should have experience of providing support in a relevant social care setting and have a good understanding of supporting people who have experienced trauma.
The successful applicant will have at least SVQ Level III or equivalent level of qualification in health and social care or other relevant subject, or equivalent experience and willingness to work towards a qualification.
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high degree of motivation and have the ability to work on their own as well as part of a team. An ability to cover on-call is an advantage (additional payments are made for this role).
