Who Cares? Scotland is Scotland’s only national independent membership organisation for Care Experienced people. Our mission is to secure a lifetime of equality, respect, and love for Care Experienced people in Scotland and we currently have over 3500 Care Experienced members.

At the heart of Who Cares? Scotland’s work are the rights of Care Experienced people and the power of their voices to bring about positive change.

We provide individual lifelong independent advocacy and a range of connection and participation opportunities for Care Experienced people across Scotland. We work alongside Corporate Parents and others to broaden understanding and challenge the stigma experienced by Care Experienced people. We create opportunities for people with lived experience of care to influence policy makers, leaders, and elected representatives locally and nationally to shape legislation, policy and practice. We do this collaboratively to build on the aspirations of The Promise and secure positive change.

We’re seeking enthusiastic and skilled individuals to join our Board of Trustees to help oversee our work and ensure that the voice of Care Experienced people is central to everything we do. We are particularly seeking individuals with skills and experience in the following areas:

· Human Resources

· Fundraising

· Communications

· Public/external affairs

· Member engagement

We welcome and encourage applications from those with experience of care. We want our Board to represent the diversity of our society today, and we’re particularly keen to hear from groups currently underrepresented on our Board, including people from black or ethnic minority backgrounds, people with a disability and people who identify as LGBTQIA+.

We’ll provide full training and support so no previous experience is necessary. All we ask is that you commit to attending at least 4 board meetings per year (virtual or in-person), sub-committee meetings as required, and participate in our events to meet members and hear from them in person.

SLIC is the independent advisory body to the Scottish Government on library and information related matters. It is a registered charity and an independent company. It is also a membership organisation representing the interests of public, academic, Further Education, Health and special interest libraries within Scotland.

Board Responsibilities

The Board meets three times a year in addition to the AGM. Board members are expected to serve on a sub-committee which would involve a commitment of up to another three days. Board meetings have been online and in person in recent times.

The Board provides strategic direction and oversight. Major policy decisions are made at Board level drawing on information provided by the Chief Executive and senior management team. The decisions of the Board are actioned through the Chief Executive and senior management team of the organisation.

As Board members will be directors of the organisation applicants must:

• be at least 16 years old

• not be an undischarged bankrupt

• not be a disqualified director

Please note the appointments are on a voluntary basis however reasonable out of pocket expenses will be paid.

Pinkston Watersports is Scotland’s 1st and only artificial white water course. We also operate flat water activities in our clean canal basin and land based activities adjacent. Our objectives focus on three main areas of Sport, Social Enterprise and Community. Pinkston and its activities contribute towards community regeneration and physical activity; a mechanism for supporting education of young people and adults alike in the urban outdoors. Pinkston’s vision is to be recognised as a centre for sporting excellence, to promote watersports in Scotland whilst ensuring accessibility for all. By promoting our sports and making them accessible to all we can deliver a wide range of health and wellbeing benefits.

The current Board is well established and diverse but Pinkston is transitioning from a start-up to an growing and ambitious Social Enterprise. Our local area is changing with over £750 million of new housing developments in Sighthill and significant business development in Port Dundas. Pinkston is looking for new talent to seize these opportunities and grow our social enterprise and support the delivery of our charitable objectives.

Our Board is well represented in terms of clubs and paddlesports and therefore we are particularly keen to attract applicants with local development and/or community engagement and evaluation experience. In addition, we would value applicants with HR, legal or fundraising expertise. We are committed to conscious inclusion and value applicants from a range of backgrounds.

This a voluntary role(s) and the commitment involves around 4 hours per month. This includes Board meetings at 6 weekly intervals often held online from 6.30pm until 9pm.
