Around since 1923, SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity.

SAMH has represented the voice of people most affected by mental health problems in Scotland for more than 90 years.

Today, in over 60 communities we work with adults and young people providing mental health social care support, services in primary care, schools and further education, among others. These services together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention and active living; inform our policy and campaign work to influence positive social change.

SAMH is dedicated to mental health and wellbeing for all: with a vision of a society where people are able to live their lives fully, regardless of present or past circumstances.

SAMH is delighted to be partnering with ProjectScotland, part of Volunteering Matters family of brands, who support young people to get on in life through the power of volunteering. They offer a range of supported programmes, including a mentoring offer. This is to assist young people in building skills and confidence to progress into employment, education and training, in line with the Young Person’s Guarantee.

We now wish to recruit a Wellbeing Worker who will offer support to young people aged 16 – 24 (26 if care experienced) whose mental health and wellbeing is creating significant barriers to them engaging in ProjectScotland support.

The Wellbeing Worker will use a listen and link approach to connect and work with the young person to identify and manage the issues and barriers that affect their mental health and wellbeing. Through goal setting and action planning they will help them to understand what services are available within their local area and help them to confidently navigate and access these.

In addition to this listen and link support, the Wellbeing Worker will deliver individual support and group work using the following SAMH programmes:

Time for Me is an 8 session life skills course based on CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) for young people aged 16 – 18 years who are experiencing low mood, anxiety and anger. The programme is delivered individually, both face to face and online.

5 Ways to Better Wellbeing groups bring together young people aged 16+ to consider how they can look after their mental health and wellbeing using each of the 5 ways.

The Wellbeing Worker will work alongside the SAMH Children and Young People Trainer who will also support this partnership programme through the delivery of mental health workshops to young people and Project Scotland staff.

We are looking for an experienced individual with extensive experience of working with young people around their mental health and wellbeing. With exceptional communication skills and ability to manage own case load, you’ll need to be flexible to respond to the needs of young people accessing Project Scotland, ensuring your practice is of the highest quality at all times.

The successful candidate will undertake training around the SAMH Time for Me & 5 Ways to Better Wellbeing programmes.

A PVG check is required for this post, along with a Right to Work in the UK check. Candidates will also be required to provide proof of qualifications declared on the application form. A driving licence and access to a car is desirable for this post.
