Are you passionate about social justice and working to achieve equity for people experiencing mental health stigma and discrimination then this role may be an ideal role for you. As a critical member of the See Me Programme Team you will lead a programme of work that empowers supporters, partners and people with lived experience to take action in line with our new strategy With Fairness in Mind, and towards achieving our vision of a fairer and more inclusive Scotland, free from mental health stigma and discrimination.

You will provide insight, leadership and management to take forward an exciting and diverse programme of work that draws on evidence of what works to challenge the stigma experienced by individuals, families and communities.

As manager of the communities and priority groups programme within See Me you would apply your skills and experience of community development, develop strategic and delivery partnerships at national and local levels, and work alongside our dedicated staff team and volunteers to deliver a programme that increases attention and action to address stigma at scale and influence change to make a lasting difference.

We are funded by the Scottish Government and managed by SAMH and The Mental Health Foundation and influencing change is what the programme is all about.

Role summary:

You will provide effective leadership and management for the Communities and Priority Groups team and programme of work. Through applying creative and inclusive approaches, you will champion a movement for change by mobilising people, communities and groups to act to reduce mental health stigma and discrimination. Through skilled facilitation and partnership working you will guide and support the team, volunteers, policy leads and partners to take forward evidence based approaches addressing the stigma experienced by diverse and seldom heard communities.

What will you do

  1. This post holder will lead and manage the ‘Communities and Priority Groups’ Programme and team in See Me.
  2. This team works to empower people with experience of mental ill health to raise awareness and understanding of mental health problems and to take action on stigma. It engages with and supports diverse communities and groups to call out and challenge mental health stigma and discrimination and through working with a range of partners drives forward a programme that influences change to address the stigma experienced by particular groups and communities across Scotland.
  3. The jobholder will work with key strategic, policy and delivery partners to take forward a programme that identifies and challenges mental health stigma and discrimination experienced by particular groups and communities across Scotland.
  4. The programme team will work with a range of organisations and partnerships who support change and improvement for priority populations, equality groups and people experiencing multiple stigma. Empowering people and communities to take action is a central aspect of the role.
  5. The jobholder will develop and maintain excellent working relationships across the programme.
  6. They will also work constructively with members of the team to support effective administration, event planning, communications, monitoring and reporting. They will also collaborate with the Settings and Communications and public affairs teams to achieve the programmes goals.
  7. Model behaviours based on organisational values; working flexibly and collaboratively across the team to make a noticeable and positive contribution to the working environment and team culture.
  8. The job holder will also develop good working relationships with key partners in diversity organisations and local organisations including third sector and public services.
