The Royal College of General Practitioners is the largest membership organisation solely for GPs in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1952, it has over 54,000 members who are committed to improving patient care, developing their own skills and promoting general practice as a discipline. General practice is the largest branch of the medical profession. It provides some 1 million consultations for patients in the UK every working day and deals with 86% of the health problems experienced by the UK population.
The College in Scotland is looking for an experienced Policy & Public Affairs Manager who will lead the development and delivery of a policy and public affairs strategy in Scotland. You will provide strategic advice on all aspects of policy development to our Officer and staff team and represent the College at meetings with key stakeholders including the Scottish Government, opposition health spokespeople, Health, Social Care and Sport Committee members, government and third sector agencies and other Royal Colleges. You will also lead a small Policy & Public Affairs team, ensuring that the work of the team contributes to the wider College in Scotland and the UK.
You will have experience of developing written briefings, policy materials and reports, writing public affairs and communication plans and developing strong working relationships with stakeholders. You will have an excellent understanding of the political landscape in Scotland, and the ability to develop an understanding of the health agenda and patient issues. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to manage a small team.
