We now have an opportunity for a Diverse Communities Facilitator to join our Charity team based in Glasgow

The primary role of the Diverse Communities Facilitator is to lead the development and facilitation of ENABLE Scotland’s ACE and Family Connect Strategy with a particular focus on engagement with ethnically diverse communities.

The Diverse Communities Facilitator will work with our members towards an equal society for every person who has a learning disability. They will:

  • work to grow the ENABLE Community in their area with a particular focus on the building of relationships and connections with people within ethnically diverse communities.
  • work with the organisation to develop relationships, tools and resources to encourage engagement with with individuals and families who identify as part of ethnically diverse communities
  • coordinate and facilitate ACE groups for all, in line with the ENABLE Scotland Participation Plan.
  • coordinate and facilitate Family Connect groups in line with the ENABLE Scotland Participation Plan.

About You

To support our engagement the ideal candidate will have fluency in at least two community languages including English

The ideal candidate would be supportive of our ambitions to engage meaningfully with the wider community and be willing ,as part of their role, to share their insight into how we can improve our approach to inclusivity as a committed anti-racist organisation.

Knowledge

  • Commitment to ENABLE Scotland’s mission and values
  • Knowledge and understanding of the barriers faced by individuals and families from minority ethnic groups when accessing support and services.
  • Good understanding of the voluntary sector environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues faced by people who use support services and how this can impact on their life.
  • Good understanding of national and local priorities relating to learning disability, family carers, and other related issues.
  • An understanding of the value of involving people who have learning disabilities and their families.

Core Skills

  • Excellent communication skills including oral, written, facilitation and presentation skills essential.
  • Fluency in at least two community languages, including English
  • Ability to establish personal credibility to build and sustain good working relationships.
  • Excellent prioritisation and time management skills.
  • Computer literacy, including word processing and use of Microsoft Office.
  • Good analytical problem-solving skills.
  • A self-starter, able to take the initiative and work independently in developing projects.
  • A clean and valid UK / EU Driver’s license would be beneficial

Experience

  • Experience of working in a community setting.
  • Experience of youth or community work.
  • Experience of member involvement in activism or campaigning.
  • A team player who can build good working relationships both internally and externally to provide the best platform for ENABLE Scotland’s work.
