At Aberlour we listen to understand what our young people want and need within our local area. As such, our new services in Glenrothes support young people with learning disabilities and/or autism to live and thrive within the local community.

What we are looking for....

As a Young People’s Worker, you will play a fundamental role in our young people’s lives to ensure that they get the best possible experience whilst working towards goals in their care plan. Using a person-centred approach, you will provide enabling support ensuring the highest level of physical and emotional care; supporting our young people in their daily living and within the local community.

If you have an interest in working with young people, we would like to hear from you. We are looking for a Young People’s Worker to work part time (22.5 hours per week).

These hours will be worked as part of a 24/7 residential rota, which will include mornings, evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays. You will also be expected to do sleepovers.

Ideally, candidates will have social care experience and an understanding of autism, complex needs and disability. You will hold, or be willing to work towards, a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above (for example: SVQ3 Care plus an HNC) together with relevant experience of working with children or young people. You must also be able to demonstrate awareness of the key elements of working with people affected by disability as well as an understanding of, and commitment to, young people’s rights.

About Options Aberdeen

Our service has been developed in partnership with Aberdeen City Council and Grampian Autistic Society and provides a mix of care at home, community and residential short breaks. Our exciting programme enables children with complex disabilities to have new experiences and make new friends. At the same time, their families are enabled to have a crucial break to recharge and refresh their batteries enabling them to maintain the high level of support their children need when they return home from their short break. The Hub also provides holistic family support through a menu of services that support and complement direct support offered to children and young people. Working with the children is not a ‘quick fix’ but a long term endeavour supporting them to make small incremental change that over time becomes significant. The role is challenging but also immensely rewarding.

You will work closely with internal and external colleagues in a multi-agency approach to ensure that the holistic needs of children, young people and families are central to service provision. We are particularly looking for workers who have health care experience, knowledge and skills to support children and young people with complex health needs within their own homes.

About the Role:

Our Employability services (G40 2UA) service is targeted at young people 16-24 yrs who have experienced a variety of barriers and we enable them to reach a positive and sustained employment destination. By using a range of engaging programmes and tools, you will work with a team to support and prepare young people with their first steps into the world of employment or further education.

This role will be working in our Youthbuild team which is a construction programme aimed at 16-24-year olds who may face a range of issues/barriers affecting their ability to maintain and sustain employment. Youthbuild provides participants with a comprehensive 4 week in-house training programme followed by a work placement and 6 months paid employment within the construction industry. Each young person is assigned a dedicated key worker to support them through the duration of the Youthbuild programme.

The successful applicant will directly support and deliver a range of both practical and vocational employability programmes which meets the needs of our young people for them to access, maintain and sustain employment. You will act as a key worker for a caseload of young people to provide the provision of a comprehensive in-house training programme and a 1:1 support as part of the aftercare service. The successful applicant will also support the service expansion by utilising face to face and online delivery to engage young people from all over Scotland. This reflects our organisational expertise as a leading young person's charity, aiming to address inequalities and improve the lives of Scotland's young people.

As a Employment Facilitator, you'll be:

Providing a responsive, high quality and customer focused service to young people seeking to enter the labour market and our partners based on an assessment of need that is regularly and professionally reviewed and the development of aspirational action plans which are outcomes driven.

Applying Action for Children's and professional practice standards and ensuring their implementation as necessary and being proactive in their implementation.

Managing and co-ordinate a caseload of young people, providing a range of targeted interventions to assist their entry to the labour market through group, coordinated or individual support.

Leading the development and delivery of a range of group work modules that contribute to our overall employability programmes, promoting inclusion and allowing for individual learning styles.

What You'll Bring:

Our job description for the Employment Facilitator outlines the requirements of the role but the ‘must-haves' are:

An SVQ 3 in Social Care, Guidance or equivalent and / or experience of delivering Construction or Health and Safety qualifications.

Experience of working in group settings with young people facing multiple barriers.

Knowledge and understanding of young people facing unemployment.

A full driving licence and access to a suitable means of transport to enable the duties of the role to be effectively carried out.

Funded by Scottish Government, and administered by Corra Foundation, our project aims to develop family inclusive practice and involve family members in the development of group opportunities for parents and families within the recovery community.

The post holder will work alongside family members to ensure that their views and experiences inform not only their support, but wider family inclusive practice.
