Role
Who are we, and what do we need?
The Glencorse Association is a charitable organisation that runs the Glencorse Centre, a community facility located in Auchendinny, about a mile north of Penicuik. We organise community-based activities, to promote the health and welfare of local residents and rent our facilities to local groups and businesses who offer services to the local community. We also operate a volunteer-run community café, including children’s play area, and garden. More information about the Centre can be found through our Facebook page, namely Glencorse Centre.
It is vital that we recruit new Board Members to help shape the future of the only service to the community in Auchendinny.
If you are passionate about sustaining a community led service and developing community spaces and would be interested in supporting the Glencorse Association in delivering its mission and vision, we would love to hear from you!
The Role
We are looking for new Board Members who can support with strategic development and augment the range of skills available in the current board so we can develop the community centre, community garden and the services that we offer. We would be particularly interested in new Board Members who have experience in one, or several, of the following domains:
• Third sector organisations and funding applications
• Organising events and fundraising
• A treasurer who can analyse financial performance
• Marketing
• IT and social media development
• Environmental/net zero in a workplace
• Managing volunteers
• Health and safety in the workplace
• GDPR
• Safeguarding
• HR
We are open to any other developmental ideas that you feel you could bring to the Glencorse Association and the local community.
Your skills and interests may have been developed through working for a small or large organisation, working for yourself, volunteering or simply by life experience. You don’t need to have prior experience on a board, we will provide a full induction and help you understand the role and responsibilities of being a Board Member.
A role on the Glencorse Association Board is flexible and we understand that individual personal circumstances may dictate the level of engagement you can offer.
The Board meets monthly for two hours and communicates remotely in between meetings to discuss any urgent matters that have been escalated. The Board holds an annual AGM and all Board Members are expected to attend to reflect on our work and to set strategy and plans for the coming year. Additional opportunities to support the Glencorse Centre's staff and community on specific areas of interest and priority are also available, depending on the Board Member’s interests and experience.

Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre is a SCIO charity based in Drylaw, Edinburgh. From young people to older adults, we run projects that build confidence and help to achieve positive changes within their community. Currently we run a supported community gardening scheme, several community groups and a youth work programme.
Our charitable aims and objectives are:
To develop the capacity and skills of people living in socially and economically disadvantaged areas in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and to create active, flourishing communities. To run a Neighbourhood Centre, primarily for the benefit of Drylaw, Telford and other communities in North Edinburgh.
The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced development co-ordinator who will support the centre to offer a range of opportunities and activities for people within the community of Drylaw and Telford. Drylaw Neighbourhood Centre is a friendly and welcoming place that is highly valued by those that use it as well as the wider community.
We are looking for someone who will co-ordinate the activities of the centre, including staff and volunteers and who will work to build relationships with other local organisations as well as people in the local community who may benefit from the activities and services it can provide.
Charitable fundraising experience would also be beneficial to the role.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead our team as Chair of Women’s Aid Orkney. Women’s Aid Orkney offers a range of services to support women and children impacted by domestic abuse. Our Board of Trustees is appointed on a voluntary basis, with the Chair role involving five hours of commitment each month on average. The chair role is not restricted to live in Orkney.
Key duties include:
- Providing leadership to the Board and Women’s Aid Orkney team, including building a strong working relationship with the Service Manager
- Working with Trustees to provide strategic direction for the charity and its services
- Ensuring the Board fulfils its duties and responsibilities for effective governance
- Ensuring the Board regularly reviews and manages risks and associated opportunities
- Being an ambassador, including representing Women’s Aid Orkney with partners, key stakeholders and the media
- Planning and leading monthly virtual Trustee meetings, encouraging effective and efficient decision making
- Monitoring the implementation of decisions made at Trustee meetings.
We're looking for someone with:
- Passion and motivation to make a difference for women and children impacted by domestic abuse
- Strong leadership skills, whether in a voluntary or work capacity
- Excellent communication skills, with strong networking and relationship building abilities
- Ability to encourage a collaborative working environment
- Time to conduct the role well.

Our Board of Trustees features women from a range of backgrounds, professions and life stages who each bring objective viewpoints to the work of our service. We currently have a number of vacancies where you can make an impact on our vital work.
Award-winning performance company, Curious Seed, was formed in 2005 by Scottish choreographer, Christine Devaney. Based in Edinburgh, we produce compelling dance theatre work that questions the world we live in; work which touches and moves people, unlocking new ways of experiencing and feeling something different about the world. Our work has been presented across the globe from Milan to Macao, New Zealand to Norway, appearing at prestigious international festivals and venues from Sadler’s Wells to Sydney Opera House. Since 2015, Curious Seed has been a Creative Scotland Regularly Funded Organisation.
We are now seeking 3 Trustees to strengthen our existing board and to replace Trustees who are due to retire (including the role of Treasurer).

Medical Research Scotland are looking for a number of Trustees to help us to continue our mission in using research to change lives and improve health in Scotland and globally.
We are Scotland’s largest independent medical research charity committed to encouraging and supporting promising individuals at the early stages of their research careers.
Desired experience and skills
Our Trustees come from a variety of backgrounds and have different expertise. We currently seek Trustees with at least one of the following overall skills:
- A strong communications, fundraising and marketing background, including knowledge of digital or social media.
- An understanding of the UK charity sector, good governance, OSCR requirements, relevant legislation and statutory requirements.
- An ability to contribute to strategic development and decision making.
- Experience of working in scientific or clinical research, nursing, pharmacy and allied health professions or in the commercial environment in the life sciences industry.
Trustees are appointed for a term of up to four years and are eligible to serve up to a further four years, after which they must retire from the Board. The board usually meet two to three times a year in person/online. Trustees may also be required to contribute between meetings including sitting on ad-hoc sub committees and attending events as appropriate.
