About Edinburgh Food Project

Edinburgh Food Project was established in 2012 with the aim of reducing the effects of food poverty in Edinburgh by providing emergency food parcels to those in the community most in need. Over the last three years, we have been transitioning our 7 foodbank centres into “More than Food” hubs to allow our clients to access dedicated support to help them with their immediate and underlying problems to reduce/eliminate their need for food bank assistance and build their financial resilience for the future.

Edinburgh Food Project are now going through a period of change, developing their strategy to reflect the Scottish Government Consultation: Ending the need for foodbanks, and the Poverty Commission’s Report, A Just Capital.

Purpose of Role:

Working alongside the Money Advice Service, the role of Referral Administrator is to triage clients referred by the Scottish Welfare Fund, the Money Advice Helpline and for those clients who contact EFP direct. In addition, the role involves general administrative tasks such as answering phone calls and emails, creating client records and arranging appointments with Money Advice Service advisers.

The Peeblesshire Foodbank is looking for a Local Organiser, someone who can research the key drivers of poverty in this area and work with the public and politicians to influence policy, working towards ending the need for foodbanks.

The Local Organiser is responsible for building and leading a volunteer team to develop and deliver local influencing strategies for and with the Peeblesshire Foodbank, organising in your community to campaign for change. You will be the link between the Peeblesshire Foodbank and the Organising and Local Mobilisation team at Trussell Trust, as we build a movement to end the need for food banks. Full training will be given.

Key Responsibilities:

• To develop and manage a team of volunteers, building and distributing leadership across the team, within the Peeblesshire Foodbank, to work on local influencing to reduce poverty and the need for food banks.
• To explore and understand the experiences that are bringing people to need the food bank’s support, working with food bank staff and volunteers, through listening activities and/or research.
• To map out and build relationships with the food bank’s partners, referral agencies and local anti-poverty organisations, and to engage them in identifying the local drivers of poverty.
• To identify a local issue driving poverty, build a campaign team and develop a strategy to build power and win change, working with food bank staff and volunteers.
• To deliver the local influencing campaign working with food bank staff and volunteers.
• To work with the OLM team and engage with the training and support on offer, including work with other Local Organisers in the Trussell Trust network
• To engage in Trussell Trust’s central priority campaign activities, working with the food bank and local community

About you

Technical skills and minimum knowledge:

• Experience of campaigning or organising to achieve a change.
• Experience managing and working with volunteers.
• Experience of community outreach in the local area.
• Good project management skills, able to balance a range of priorities.
• Clean driving licence

• Confident in communicating and, able to seek and balance a range of views and stakeholders, influencing where required.

Are you motivated to make a positive change to the lives of people who live in families that are impacted by the devastating neurological condition Huntington’s disease? This is an exciting opportunity to become part our National Financial Wellbeing Service (FWS.) You will work closely with the Financial Wellbeing Service Lead and two other FWO’s to provide invaluable financial support to people living in HD families. The post holder will work in an integrated style with the charity’s Huntington’s disease (HD) Specialists, our national Specialist Youth Service and professional staff from a wide variety of backgrounds and multiple external agencies.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, motivated and who will have a positive influence on the quality of life for individuals and their families by managing and delivering high quality financial wellbeing and energy advice service including welfare rights; debt advice and financial planning and products.

The successful candidate should be able to work autonomously in this challenging and innovative post. Good listening, communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as are excellent time keeping and caseload management skills. A substantial level of experience in the advice sector is essential. This is a community post therefore a clean, current driving licence and use of a car are also required.
