Project Worker (Young People’s Drug & Alcohol Service)

  • The administrative base is in Tranent. Travel throughout East Lothian, including operating from other venues, will be required.

  • 26 days annual leave + 10 public holidays, to be worked flexibly to suit the needs of the service.


Responsible to: Service Manager (Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Service)

Special conditions:

  • The contract will run until 31st December 2023 (fixed term contract). Extension of the contract will be dependent on continuation funding.
  • The post will involve regular evening and occasional weekend working.
  • Post holders must be able to travel across East Lothian. The post holder will require a driving license and it is essential that they have access to their own vehicle.


MYPAS promotes the health and wellbeing of young people and currently focuses on working in the areas of mental health and substance use. MYPAS is a community-based organisation with charitable status and has premises in Tranent (East Lothian) and Dalkeith (Midlothian)

The post will continue to develop and provide young people focussed, needs-led, friendly, confidential and non-judgemental drug and alcohol service for:

  • Young people (aged 12 to 21) in East Lothian

The service will offer:

  1. Individual support for young people
  2. Group work programmes
  3. Staff training
  4. Support for families

There is no specific qualification required; however, the post holder will be expected to be educated to degree level. This should be in a relevant field such as Health, Community Education, Social Work or Education, but significant equivalent experience will also be considered. The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary service and work effectively with other agencies in partnership settings. This post will require regular evening and occasional weekend work.
