Top job! Head of Services

  • Full time or Part time
  • £40,710 – £47,772
  • remote/home-based until at least April 2022, with some travel to Edinburgh required for meetings
  • Closing 19th January 2022

  • Advertised from 14th December 2021
  • Accountable to: Chief Executive. Children in Scotland is Edinburgh-based but this role will be remote/ home-based until at least April 2022, with some travel to Edinburgh required for meetings and the option of use of temporary office space in Edinburgh and/or Glasgow. Arrangements will be reviewed by March 2022. There is potential for this role to be 4 to 5 days (28 to 35 hours) per week.

This is an exciting opportunity to work for a national children’s charity leading an excellent, committed team. You will be part of the Leadership Team for the organisation, working to ensure that Children in Scotland is making positive difference to the lives of children in Scotland.

In the role you will have specific responsibility for the services that are delivered by Children in Scotland. These include Enquire, which is the Scottish advice service for additional support for learning, Resolve, which is an independent mediation service for parents and carer of children and young people with additional support needs and My Rights, My Say, a support service which provides advice and information, advocacy support, legal representation and which independently seeks children’s views to inform decision-making.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about the work of Children in Scotland’s and its vision and values. You will have experience in leading and managing services and a strong understanding and commitment to children’s rights and a demonstrable commitment to listening to their views.

We want someone who is a sensitive leader and manager and can support staff who are working with vulnerable groups and with highly emotional content. It is also important that you are a good communicator not only internally but also with our external partners.

You will be remote/home-based until at least April 2022, with some travel to Edinburgh required for meetings. We are currently firming up our hybrid approach going forward, but it will be a balance between remote working, and being present at key events, meetings and other moments.

You will be ready to hit the ground running but we will offer you an excellent induction and support through those first few months, which will then turn into longer term development opportunities. You will join a brilliant group of supportive staff who are passionate about making a difference to children’s lives and work hard to achieve this.

About Children in Scotland

Giving all children in Scotland an equal chance to flourish is at the heart of everything we do.

By bringing together a network of people working with and for children, alongside children and young people themselves, we offer a broad, balanced and independent voice. We create solutions, provide support and develop positive change across all areas affecting children in Scotland. We do this by listening, gathering evidence, and applying and sharing our learning, while always working to uphold children’s rights.
