ELPA’s goal is to promote and enrich the culture of play in East Lothian. Children’s right to play is at the heart of all our plans, projects and partnerships. Whether it’s about local spaces, loose parts play, inclusion or school playtimes, we believe children should be part of the conversation. ELPA is especially known for delivering Loose Parts Play (including a European Erasmus+ partnership project) , play in the community and our play campaigns. ELPA sustained its work throughout the COVID restrictions with innovative projects which received international recognition. In our work we aim for: purposeful partnerships, collaboration over hierarchy, high quality work, sustainable income, flexibility and responsiveness.
We are seeking new Trustees to join our team. We’re keen to hear from people with skills, knowledge or interests to support ELPA’s work, including innovation, environmental sustainability and business planning. We have a vacancy for Treasurer, an exciting opportunity to support ELPA through a period of growth and development. Most important, is eagerness to help our charity continue to find effective ways to support children’s right to play. In 2011, we developed our 5-year strategic plan, Playful Futures which was updated in 2020 and 21 in response to COVID-19. Our aim is always to find playful, sustainable and respectful routes to more play opportunities for all children and young people across East Lothian. ELPA is in the process of transferring all its work to a new SCIO that has been approved by the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).
ELPA is a children’s charity so trustees must be PVG checked before they commence their role. If you are not already a member of the PVG scheme, you will need to join which ELPA arrange and pay for.

Travel details: Regualr Trustees' meetings are currently being held on zoom. Other meetings by arrangement are usually at the ELPA office in Tranent or in community centres in East Lothian.

Expenses details: Trustees are not paid for their duties, but are able to claim the cost of travel to and from meetings (within reason) and other appropriate expenses.
Training details: Prospective Trustees will be given the opportunity to learn more about ELPA, how the organisations works and role of the Trustees. On becoming a Trustee , you will have access to induction and trustees are ongoing opportunities to access training on the role of a charity trustee and other topics. Trustees are also offered opportunities to get to understand the impact of ELPA's work better through the staff tea and through planning and development sessions.
