Role

The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTC Scotland) is the independent professional regulatory body that maintains and enhances teaching standards and promotes and regulates the teaching profession in Scotland.

We are looking to appoint one Lay person to serve as a Council member.

As a Council member, you will play an important role in:

  • Influencing and making key decisions that will help shape the future of teaching, the teaching profession and other education professionals in Scotland.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of high standards in teaching and learning and the protection of children and young people. The work will be principally based in Edinburgh.
  • You will have strategic and analytical skills, be an excellent communicator, have sound judgment and decision making skills, have a strong sense of fairness, integrity and professionalism and be able to work successfully as part of a team.

Appointment:One position for a two-year term to 1 April 2024

Commitment:Attendance may involve a commitment ranging between eight and 12 days per annum.

Compensation:£75 for each half day of attendance (up to 3.5 hours). Reasonable expenses will be refunded.
