Role

Clyde Shopmobility, which is based in shop premises within Clyde Shopping Centre, is a charity which was set up to tackle loneliness and isolation for elderly people and people with disabilities. Our principles are built around the social model of disability and helping people to live independent lives. This includes providing mobility scooters, wheelchairs and sighted guides to allow people to go out into society. We have also set up various groups to allow people to come into our shop for socialisation. We are supported by our local authority and also access various grants to allow us to provide these services.

We were also successful in accessing monies from Scottish Government which is administered through Inspiring Scotland, for a separate project called SDS Ideas. This enables information to be given to residents throughout West Dunbartonshire Council Area regarding Self Directed Support. The project provides independent support to anyone going through the process of accessing social care.

Job Purpose

This is a unique post as the Project Manager will be based in and manage the shop premises and any projects which are grant funded. They will report to the Clyde Shopmobility Board of Trustees and will be responsible for all aspects of the delivery of Clyde Shopmobility and SDS Ideas services, staff management, reporting and finance. They will support our service users, staff and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ability to manage a team of staff and volunteers, thus ensuring the smooth operation of Clyde Shopmobility, SDS Ideas and any other projects for which funding is given;
  • Must be approachable and supportive to all staff and volunteers, which can include young people and those with additional support needs;
  • Ability to manage the day to day operation of Clyde Shopmobility within shop premises, eg additional cleanliness and health and safety procedures, ensuring staff / volunteers carry out appropriate instructions due to COVID-19;
  • Ensure all processes and structures are in place and carry these out appropriately;
  • Represent Clyde Shopmobility at various meetings, eg West Dunbartonshire HSCP Programme Board, Inspiring Scotland and Volunteer Centre and develop effective relationships at that level;
  • Identify resources and assign responsibilities;
  • Manage budgets and financial controls;
  • Prepare and submit the appropriate project reports to ensure compliance with grant guidelines and ensure these are appropriately stored;
  • Create and deliver project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements;
  • Work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient implementation of the projects;
  • Understand basic revenue models to ensure they meet the financial objectives of Clyde Shopmobility by preparing an annual budget and scheduling expenditures;
  • Support and advise Clyde Shopmobility board of trustees;
  • Implement risk management and quality assurance control;
  • Search for appropriate grant funding and assist in the preparation of applications and reporting requirements for each grant;

Essential Skills

The Project Manager must have:

  • Proven years of experience as a project co-ordinator, including service and line management experience;
  • Financial management experience and understanding of financial controls;
  • Ability to complete grant applications timeously and carry out reporting procedures;
  • Knowledge of the social model of disability;
  • Knowledge of the issues facing people with disabilities;
  • Knowledge and understanding of social care, how this is delivered and current challenges in West Dunbartonshire area;
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills;
  • Proficiency in appropriate software which may be required for the position;
  • Planning and organising skills at an individual and project level;

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of Self-Directed Support (Scotland) Act 2013 and how this is administered at local level;
  • Understanding of local authority and health and social care partnership structures;
  • Knowledge of the voluntary sector;
  • Experience in project management, from conception to delivery;

Salary and hours

The Project Manager will work 35 hours each week, working on a flexible basis to accommodate the needs of the service. This may mean attending evening meetings, work two Saturdays each month, or Sundays if the shop is open.

The salary will be £30,000 per annum.

The successful candidate will have a six month probationary period.
