“The best thing about working for Aberlour is that you can make a real difference to the lives of children, young people and their families”

About Sycamore Red Squirrel

Our Red Squirrel house provides residential accommodation for up to three children and/or young people, based in Auchterhouse near Dundee. The house opened in April this year and was designed with the input of a group of care experienced young people. As the experts, having experienced care themselves, the young people provided an invaluable insight, helping us create a safe, comfortable home for children and young people who have experienced trauma in their early lives. Our approach is to work in a therapeutic way to support the children and young people who live with us.

What we are looking for....

Relief Workers play a crucial role in supporting our team covering for staff holidays or absence or providing additional cover during particularly busy period. Our aim is to create a safe, loving, nurturing home for the children and young people. You should be enthusiastic, warm, playful, accepting, curious and empathetic and be able to bring these qualities to your work with the children and young people.

Children tell us they want to live somewhere they feel safe, with adults who know, understand them and love them and who they trust. They want the adults who care for them to have fun with them, to be silly, to help them learn and grow and share memories and experiences with them. Can you help to create these experiences for children and young people?

Relief Work is offered on a casual, hourly basis to provide cove for staff holidays/absence or additional support during particularly busy periods. Ideally, you will have experience of direct work with children, or will have relevant transferrable skills. Find out more information on what we are looking for in candidates here.

At Aberlour we want to make sure every child and young person has the love, support and opportunity they need to reach their potential. If you share the same vision, we want you to join our team. What we offer...

You will receive a planned and supported induction consisting of a varied training programme, including CALM Training and Child Protection Training. You will be working alongside a supportive and highly motivated team to provide a personalised service for our children and young people. This is not an easy job, but when you leave work at the end of each shift having witnessed the progress being made by the children, it is immensely rewarding.
