Role

Support in Mind Scotlandprovides support to people directly affected by mental illness, their family members, friends and supporters. We are committed to delivering services shaped by the lived experienced of people affected by mental health and believe in a holistic approach to support provision. We do this by offering a wide range of services across Scotland and aim to empower our users to make the best use of what help and support is available to them.

The Stafford Centreis a community resource centre for people experiencing mental ill health, their families and carers, which aims to help people better manage their mental health, gain greater self-confidence and become more integrated within the community.

We have secured funding from the NHS Lothian Health Improvement Fund to provide a Welfare Advice Service for people living in Edinburgh.

Our new Welfare Advice Service aims to:

·Improve the centre users’ economic and social wellbeing

·Improve carers’ access to social, recreational and therapeutic opportunities

·Offer continued development for service users with complex needs

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced Welfare and Benefits Adviser, with experience of working with those affected by mental illness up-to-date knowledge of the welfare and benefit system, support agencies and the voluntary sector in Scotland. Central to the successful delivery of this new service, the overarching aim of this role will be to ensure that service users have access to all the benefits and welfare rights they are entitled to and to enable them to achieve a better quality of life.

The Welfare Adviser will provide one-to-one support, manage caseload and appointments, put in place individual welfare management plans, and develop and review personal support plan.

You will also provide in-depth financial assessments, maximising access to all benefits and welfare services which service users may be entitled to, alongside income and debt management.
