Officer and you could soon be playing a vital role within our thriving Volunteering team.
About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain
struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the
threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and
leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause
to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving
to achieve.
At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the
core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the
people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take
pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.
We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly
anti-racist organisation.
About the team
Part of our Equity, Inclusion & Culture Directorate, the Volunteering team is passionate about the positive
impacts of volunteering for both individuals and organisations. Collaborative and supportive, we believe that
volunteers are a vital part of our growing movement for change. That’s why we engage more than 2,000 volunteers
in our shops, Hubs and local communities. Put simply, it’s an exciting time for volunteering in our communities
as we develop new volunteering opportunities to realise the potential of engaging volunteers in our fight
against the housing emergency.
About the role
An exciting new role within the team, you’ll be instrumental in ensuring a quality, inclusive volunteering experience
that equips volunteers and connects them with our cause. Indeed, you’ll have responsibility for cohesively
managing all resources and communications that directly support the volunteer experience, including our monthly
Volunteer News, a Volunteer Handbook and volunteer learning content. Managing a planned approach to updating and
improving resources and developing new resources and methods of engaging with volunteers will be important
aspects of the role too. And, when it comes to delivering Volunteer Forums in England or working with the
Volunteer Coordinator in Shelter Scotland to plan an approach to forums that’s inclusive and serves the needs of
volunteers, again we’ll count on you to deliver.
We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself
and achieve success based only on your merit.
About you
Already with experience of supporting the involvement of volunteers, you have a good understanding of what makes a
quality volunteer experience from attraction through to exit. You’re also used to designing and developing
learning content, planning and delivering presentations and facilitating training and workshops. What’s more,
you’re confident and creative using a range of communication methods, including using the written word to engage
audiences across different comms platforms. A proven ability to plan and coordinate projects and prioritise your
workload is also required, as is an innovative, solutions-focussed approach. Comfortable working both on your
own initiative and collaboratively, you’re also proficient using Microsoft Office applications to create
engaging resources.
