Change Mental Health is a leading national mental health charity providing unique support to people with severe and enduring mental ill health. We are looking for an enthusiastic Café Manager to join us here at Change Mental Health. This is an exciting new role that will play a key part in launching and establishing our first non-profit café in Edinburgh city centre.

The Café Manager is a pivotal role sitting within our Fundraising and Business development team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, kind, outgoing and authentic hospitality professional to bring our new non-profit venture to life in the heart of the city.

The post holder will have the unique opportunity to create an uplifting, non-stigmatising café that will be known for great coffee, will raise awareness of Mental Health and Illness whilst creating a safe and supportive space where everyone is welcome.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Successfully launch the Change Mental Health Non-Profit Café in Edinburgh in line with brand concept and values
  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the café
  • Enhance and achieve sales and guest review targets
  • Quality control of food and drinks, ensuring that each item served to a customer is of the highest quality
  • Ensure the business runs at net zero and where appropriate work with other social enterprise businesses within the community
  • Bringing fresh ideas to the business through new menus ideas, deals, events
  • Ensure the highest standards of Health & Safety are always maintained
  • Ensure all aspects of Security, Fire and emergency procedures are established and maintained.
  • Ordering and stock management
  • Line manage and develop your team to their full potential, manage rotas and lead on staff recruitment.
  • Contribute to the sales and marketing strategy for the business including the day to day management of social media platforms.
  • Collaborate with the Change Mental Health Teams and contribute to the growth of our non-profit Café concept.
  • Manage the café’s financial reporting, working with national teams to manage the café P&L
  • Flexibility and willingness to work weekends and occasional evenings
  • Working 5 days out of 7 with the flexibility to adapt this as when required (for example during festival season in August).

General Duties

  • Act in accordance with Data Protection legislation. Ensure all records, personal, staff and client data are managed in line with Data Management and Information Governance policies
  • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements such as provisions set out in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • As with all employees, workers and volunteers; to encourage people to join Change Mental Health as a member, donor or activist
  • To act in accordance with the charity’s Health & Safety and Safeguarding policies and to notify your line manager promptly if there are any concerns
  • To participate in regular supervision and appraisal and undertake any relevant training as appropriate to the role
  • To work in accordance with the charity’s national policies and local operating procedures and those of external regulators or professional bodies

Please note, the salary has been set at the upper limit of our salary band for this role.
