Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) is the National Development Body for Scotland’s museums and galleries sector – this includes 440 museums and galleries of all sizes and organisational types. We are looking for a Corporate Officer to join our Resources team, to support the delivery of business improvement and compliance activities. The workload is varied and is focused on continuous improvement, supporting sustainability across the organisation.

The Corporate Officer role will fulfil two key functions: the coordination of office and facilities requirements; and supporting MGS Assessment Centre compliance. The MGS Assessment Centre is managed by the MGS Skills team and delivers vocational qualifications across the sector. Additionally the role provides a range of organisational support across other areas such as procurement and data protection compliance.

You will have experience of working with processes and the provision of office and facilities support and enjoy a varied workload. You will bring a positive, can-do attitude, excellent organisational skills and a keen attention to detail. You should have a strong customer focus and be an effective communicator. Experience of supporting compliance or quality management systems would be an advantage.

As office support is a key element of the role, the postholder must be based in the office in central Edinburgh a minimum of 2 days per week.

Could you make a difference for members of the LGBT+ community in Edinburgh and beyond?

The Lavender Menace Queer Books Archive has grown out of Scotland’s first LGBT+ bookshops, Lavender Menace (1982-87) and West & Wilde (1987-97). They sold what we now call queer books – by, about or for LGBT+ people – at a time mainstream bookshops would not stock them. The bookshops also provided openly queer meeting places, where LGBT+ people were able to connect and felt affirmed and welcomed.

Bob Orr and Sigrid Nielsen, the owners of the original Lavender Menace Bookshop, in 2019 founded the Lavender Menace Queer Books Archive to keep this valuable LGBT+ book heritage alive and share it with the community. Through its amazing collection of books, the archive tells the story of queer people’s resistance, and the rise of what is now known as ‘queer pride’. These books told the stories of queer lives; they were written honestly and positively for the first time, and they changed lives.

We are looking for a creative and highly organised Community Programme Coordinator to work on all aspects of planning and delivering a wide range of projects and activity for the delivery of Lavender Menace’s Community Heritage Project activities, which aim to engage the LGBT+ community with the archive’s heritage and promote understanding of the early years of an out and proud queer community.

The Community Project’s key activities are:

• The Archive: to provide the LGBT community with regular access to the queer books archive, focused on books spanning the 1970-2000 period.
• Author readings and events: to deliver a programme of in-person and online events, run with a range of partners, which connect people to the archive’s collection and this heritage.
• Discussion and reading groups: to run groups and classes developed around particular themes in the collection and/or aimed at different sections of the LGBT community (e.g. older lesbians reading group, trans representation).
• Volunteering programme: to work with a team of volunteers involving them in all aspects of the archive’s work including community outreach, communications and social media, groups and events.

These activities build on the work Bob and Sigrid have developed with the team of volunteers. The post holder will thus be able to tap into their experience, contacts and knowledge in taking this work forward.

In addition, over the course of Year 2 and Year 3 the plan is to run a small-scale Oral History Project and Exhibition, focused on the impact and legacy of the Lavender Menace and West & Wilde Bookshops, which operated in Edinburgh between 1982 and 1997. We will be seeking partners and additional funding to help deliver this project.

The Traverse Theatre is currently looking for an experienced, inspiring and creative Development Manager who can hit the ground running, supporting the strategic expansion of the Theatre’s individual giving programme, the trust and foundation fundraising portfolio and who can provide an imaginative approach to engaging with the corporate sector through sponsorship, donations, and creative partnerships.

Typical duties include: managing a compelling case for support to increase income generation; overseeing and undertaking research to identify new potential donors, trusts, foundations and corporate supporters; managing the implementation of a successful strategy for individual giving; utilising data and insights to support the development of ambitious targets for income generation; supporting and overseeing timely reporting to funders; and managing relationships with donors, supporters, trusts, foundations and corporate supporters.

The successful candidate will have strong experience of third-sector fundraising, outstanding project management skills, be a creative thinker with problem solving skills, and be an inspiring team player with leadership experience.

This is a full-time, permanent position. A probationary period of 6 months is applicable. Hours of work are 40 per week and are flexible in line with the needs of the organisation.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a creative and enthusiastic Content Creator to join the RSNO marketing team.

As Content Creator, you will generate and deliver engaging content for the RSNO’s digital channels, with the objectives of brand awareness, audience development and ticket sales. No day will be the same! Working in a fast-paced environment, you will spend your time filming and editing videos, interviewing musicians and guest artists, writing blog posts, photographing events, creating TikToks and so much more.

We are looking for a pro-active and organised individual, who will use their creative skills to strive to find new ways to communicate the RSNO’s story and offerings to audiences, from showcasing our work in the community to promoting forthcoming concerts.
