Community Renewal is a dynamic and innovative organisation at the cutting-edge of work towards ending persistent poverty in Scotland.

Community Renewal works among deprived communities to develop, deliver and share better approaches to unlocking flourishing lives and flourishing neighbourhoods. These approaches always place people and communities in the lead: listening to them, identifying their strengths, supporting them on their terms, and building their capacity to flourish.

Community Renewal alleviates poverty by engaging and forming trusting relationships with individuals, whole families and whole communities together then supporting them by combining holistic case management (e.g. around income, work, health, wellness) with community development (e.g. forming new community activities/groups). This work is about testing change which can inform policy, be scaled up or replicated to achieve a much greater impact than our direct delivery alone.

This role will take a community development approach to stimulating, supporting and empowering community activities around growing, food and climate action in the Bingham, Magdalene and The Hays neighbourhood of Edinburgh. This includes recruiting and supporting volunteers and building trusted relationships with community activists and wider agencies/partners. Close coordination with a wider team providing community engagement and community casework will be needed including involvement in wider community engagement activities (e.g. events and outreach).

This role is ideal for someone at any stage in their career who wants to make change happen at a local level using a community development approach towards sustainably tackling poverty and embedding climate actions within a deprived neighbourhood.

This role will support our team of community caseworkers who are based in the Bingham, Magdalene and The Hays neighbourhood of Edinburgh. The role will concentrate on supporting community engagement including working with community groups, regular door knocking using our proven approach, and supporting community events.

This role is ideal for:

• someone wanting to build experience in a professional environment,
• someone wanting to spend 6 months making direct positive impact in this community, or
• someone embarking on a new career related to community development.

It is not a formal traineeship but includes on the job learning and training in community engagement skills.

About Forres Area Community Trust (FACT)

FACT is a thriving third sector organisation that aims to make Forres a great place to live, work and visit. We follow the principles of sustainable development and our objects are to:

• advance citizenship and community development
• advance and protect the environment, culture and heritage
• advance education and lifelong learning for the benefit of the general public

FACT runs a number of projects to further these objects. FACT also owns Forres Town Hall, which is the base for these projects and a range of different activities offered by other user groups and organisations. Our next major step, having purchased Forres Town Hall through a Capital Asset Transfer, is to secure its long-term future through a major refurbishment programme and we are currently raising funds for this.

Post Aim:

• To manage the delivery of the strategic vision of the Forres Area Community Trust.

Main Duties

• To deliver FACT’s Business Plan and promote, plan, resource, implement, monitor and evaluate its projects and work streams, including the development of revenue streams to support FACT’s short and long-term objectives.
• To work with the local community to promote and support local projects within the aims of the Forres Area Community Trust.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to oversee, manage and grow all our activities.

The Organisation

The award-winning Tayport Community Trust and Enterprises has grown to be a successful and sizable organisation with a turnover of over £500k and a workforce of 25 staff, assisted by over 50 volunteers. Our business plan is simple – we aim to generate cash from our trading arm (Enterprises) which is gifted to the Trust, which is then invested into community projects.

Larick Centre & Cafe

Our Award-winning community centre has halls and rooms for rent along with a 50-seater café. All of these are available for rent for various groups, functions and parties, and the Trust arranges community activities.

Larick Campsite

The 32-pitch site opened in 2021 caters for campervans, caravans, tents and backpackers. It has a well-appointed utility building with showers, drying room and pot wash. Situated a stone’s throw from Tentsmuir Forest, and close to Dundee and St Andrews.

Harbour Cafe

The award-winning café at Tayport harbour was the Enterprise’s first venture and has been a very popular café since its opening over 10 years ago.

PLANT

People Learning About Nature in Tayport is an award-winning subgroup of the Trust. It is run by its own working committee and offers a community garden, various workshops and activities for the community, and manages a fruit walk.
