The successful candidate will be one of the key leaders in helping the Presbytery of Lothian and Borders to foster
and sustain a culture of mission/growth. Please note this is a half-time post and it is the intention of the
Presbytery to have two half-time Mission Officers.
Main duties will include
• To get alongside congregations and help the presbytery inspire them in their missional life
• To help Presbytery develop an understanding of contextual mission providing an appropriate balance between renewal
and pioneering initiatives
• Feedback to Presbytery areas of missional need from congregations requiring support and resourcing
• To support, inspire, and encourage mission district and congregational mission activities
• To help to set up and inform the working of Mission Districts
• To train and support mission districts and congregations in their implementation of the five marks of mission
• To assist mission districts and congregations to theologically reflect on issues surrounding mission in 21st
century secular Scotland
• To support Presbytery in the review of missional aspects of congregational Local Church Review Action Plans,
advising on training and resources to help towards the achievement of goals
• Facilitate and assist in the development and ongoing implementation of the Mission Plan and Local Church
Review
• To arrange gatherings to encourage networking, sharing of information and experiences and expert input on relevant
mission topics
• To work with Presbytery in developing new models of mission/ministry for the missional context of today
• Liaise with Officers of the National Church, Forums, Committees, and agencies, as appropriate, to ensure that
national projects and policies are effectively communicated with Presbytery
• To develop effective partnerships with other relevant organisations and to encourage such partnership working
within mission districts; this could include other denominations, Workplace Chaplaincy Scotland, Fresh
Expressions, FE Establishments, and relevant third sector bodies
