About Perinatal Befriending Forth Valley
Our Perinatal Befriending Support Service based within the Forth Valley area aims to help mums who are struggling with anxiety and depression during pregnancy and after their baby is born. Our befrienders are there for the mums while they are pregnant and up to the baby is aged one. This befriending relationship helps mum, her partner and immediate family and, as a result, we aim to improve parents' mental health, reduce social isolation and promote healthy attachments between baby and parents.
You will help to develop and implement the principles of the Perinatal Befriending Support Service to provide an early intervention, low intensity service for those with low level (mild to moderate) diagnosed mental health issues or who are at risk of developing mental health issues in the perinatal period.
What we are looking for....
Working 20 hours per week flexibly from our bases in Stirling, Falkirk and from home you will be based for a minimum of one day per week in an office setting, attending Team meetings and linking with colleagues in person.
Working hours are to be discussed and agreed with your manager. Service delivery could be out with normal working hours and may include mornings, evenings, and weekends. A 5% unsocial allowance is paid for this. You will work closely with referrers and families to identify and assess the required support. You will recruit, train, and support appropriate volunteers to be matched with parents in providing befriending support.
Ideally you will have local knowledge of the area and services available to families. You will have a relevant qualification at SCQF level 8 or have equivalent knowledge acquired by other means. You will have experience of working with children and vulnerable families and be able to demonstrate a depth of understanding of how mental health issues can affect relationships in a family setting and the impact during the perinatal stage. Experience of Volunteer Management would be desirable. Find out more information on what we are looking for in candidates here.
