Role Purpose

Volunteering Matters are looking for a talented, dynamic, and professional Engagement Manager to join our team in Newcastle upon Tyne. The right candidate would be someone who can work flexibly and demonstrate an understanding and commitment to our organisational values.

Over the last 18 months, we have led the development and delivery of the new “Home from Hospital and

Community Support” volunteering programme in Newcastle, alongside our delivery partner’s - Chain Reaction.

This service involves volunteers supporting patients to return home from a hospital stay, ensuring the patient is settled and comfortable at home and providing short term emotional and practical support. Further information on the project is available online -

As our Engagement Manager, you will be the lead Volunteering Matters staff member delivering this programme, working closely with our Chain Reaction partners, stakeholders, funders, volunteers, and other internal colleagues to ensure the project continues to be a success.

This is a Fixed Term contract until 31.10.2023 at the moment, an extension to the contract is possible, dependent on future funding being available for the project.

The Urban Fox Programme works with young people and families to deliver a range of youth engagement, peer mentoring, volunteering and certificated learning as well as supporting community events within 6 communities covering the North East and South Sectors of Glasgow.

In addition to this, The Urban Fox Programme is the lead partner responsible for employing a Capacity Building and Engagement Offer and holding associated funds. This is on behalf of the Voluntary Sector North East Glasgow (VSNEG) network.

• To provide a varied youth-led programme of activities and learning & development opportunities for young people.

• Manage and support staff and volunteer within the Programme.

• Oversee and develop the Programme’s Youth Volunteering Programme

Background information

The Welcoming Association is a charity that works specifically with New Scots (asylum seekers, refugees and migrants) in Edinburgh. We won the 2021 Ashden Award for Greener Communities, and three of our volunteers also won prestigious prizes at the Inspiring Volunteer Awards 2021.

Purpose of the role

This postholder will work in partnership with Project Scotland to deliver the ‘Inspire’ project from April 2023 to May 2024. The project aims to help Young New Scots (18-35 years old) by providing self-management and social intelligence classes, volunteering opportunities and mentoring.

Although the project will work in partnership with Project Scotland, which has a base in Dundee, the post holder will work from The Welcoming’s office on 20/1 Westfield Avenue, Edinburgh, EH11 2TT.

We seek an experienced outdoor and multi-skilled senior youth development worker to support our Youth Vision team. This exciting post offers a unique opportunity to work with vulnerable young people in the nature-based informal education setting of our 18th Century restored farm steading in the Pentland hills. You will have experience of project management and lead facilitation with vulnerable young people, staff, and volunteers in the outdoor environment.

Working alongside the field manager you will support, develop, and run our programmes at our Steading and within the community. Experience of supporting funding strategies would be desirable.

The Role:

Support and work alongside Field Manager running and supporting all projects.

Responsibilities:

• Planning, organising and running groups at Threipmuir farm steading as well as in the community.
• Managing and supervising the facilitators and volunteers.
• Managing the evaluation of the projects, measuring, and disseminating the outcomes.
• Support staff in current funders and feedbacks.
• Producing monthly progress reports and attending appropriate meetings.
• Overseeing the delivery of outcomes, tracking of achievements and progression of young people, facilitators, and volunteers.
• Supporting Youth Vision’s Policies including child protection, safeguarding and risk assessment.
