We are seeking a proactive energetic individual who has a real understanding of the challenges facing people in our local communities and can build relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.

This is an innovative new project building on current developments and pilot sessions, working in partnership with The Trussell Trust to develop new community based ‘cash first’ responses to food insecurity. The overall aim is to reduce the need for food support by:

1. increasing access to effective advice through embedding cash first volunteers at community access points

2. enabling foodbank referrers and other front-line staff to adopt a cash first approach (helping people access cash/money advice before referral to foodbanks)

The Coordinator, working closely with the Dundee Community Food Network Project Lead, will be responsible for leading the development of the Cash First Training Programme (including attaining accreditation); recruitment, training and support to Cash First Volunteers; development of a 3 Step Referral Strategy (including e-learning and remote learning options) and delivery of this strategy to a wider cohort of stakeholders.

At the heart of this work is partnership with The Trussell Trust, Dundee Community Food Network, Dundee and Angus Foodbank, Dundee City Council Advice Services, Citizens Advice Bureau Dundee, Brooksbank, NHS Public Health, and other key partners.

We are looking for an experienced Finance/Admin Officer who will have key responsibility for financial administration, including the management of the accounts for the Board of trustees, the finance required for various funding returns, the day-to-day financial management, as well as undertaking general admin tasks under the guidance of the CEO. This post will also provide monthly support and supervision sessions to a team of 3 admin assistants. This post is based within the Charities office in Edinburgh.

Main Duties

· Provide day to day support to a team of 3 admin assistants.

· Monthly bank reconciliations of the charity

· Process customer invoices/supplier payments by BACS

· Check, process and record all payments, administer invoices, process expenses claims.

· Process small grant payments

· Produce monthly management reports and cash flow statement

· Maintain proper records on the computer accounts package – Sage & Sage payroll.

· Filing of all relevant paperwork

· Dealing with correspondence and answering calls

· Taking minutes of meetings as required.

· Preparing budget’s for projects with grant and trust applications

· Assist with year-end procedures and the Charities annual audit process.

· Undertake general admin tasks under the direction of the Senior Management Team and CEO.

Experience

You are required to have experience of.

· Sage accounts

· Sage payroll

· Staff support & supervision.

· Minute taking

· Data recording systems

· Budget preparation - full cost recovery method.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

· Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.

· Proficiency in working with Microsoft packages, including outlook, word and excel.

· Accuracy in reporting detailed financial information.

· Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.

· Ability to maintain effective office systems.

· Confidence in dealing with external organisations.

· Ability to plan and prioritise own workload, manage tasks and meet deadlines.

Education and Qualifications

· A recognised qualification in financial management or equivalent

Do you have time to spare and skills to share? Are you interested in contributing on a voluntary basis to the management of a local charity?

Neilston Windfarm Legacy (NWL) is a small charity which distributes funds for community projects, large and small, which benefit Neilston residents and improve the village environment (neilstonlegacy.org). We look after a fund of about £1.6million pounds and distribute over £100,000 per year. Our chair is retiring this autumn and there is a further vacancy, so we need two enthusiastic and energetic new trustees to join our small Board to bring additional capacity and expertise. A background in the voluntary sector including as office bearers, or in financial management, administration, environmental planning or architecture, website management or journalism, or community arts would be relevant.

Our Board meets in Neilston about every five weeks and occasionally trustees are involved in other activities. Trustees also undertake most of the administrative, financial and PR tasks needed to run the Charity as no staff are employed. We do however retain specialist financial advisers to manage our investments, and independent legal and accountancy services are used as and when required. No fund-raising is undertaken.

Community Renewal is a dynamic and innovative organisation at the cutting-edge of work towards ending persistent poverty in Scotland.

Community Renewal works among deprived communities to develop, deliver and share better approaches to unlocking flourishing lives and flourishing neighbourhoods. These approaches always place people and communities in the lead: listening to them, identifying their strengths, supporting them on their terms, and building their capacity to flourish.

Community Renewal alleviates poverty by engaging and forming trusting relationships with individuals, whole families and whole communities together then supporting them by combining holistic case management (e.g. around income, work, health, wellness) with community development (e.g. forming new community activities/groups). This work is about testing change which can inform policy, be scaled up or replicated to achieve a much greater impact than our direct delivery alone.

This role will provide finance administration and business support for Community Renewal Trust and subsidiary businesses to ensures the smooth running of the finance department.
