About us:

A registered SCIO, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – Perth and Kinross Association (PKDofE) provides young people and families in the Perth and Kinross local authority region with unique opportunities to discover themselves and build the confidence and skills they need to realise their potential.

Since August 2018 we have embarked on a unique and ambitious programme of direct, close support work with young people called the Starfish Way. Thanks to the wonderful owners of Megginch Castle, near Errol, the young people we support can enjoy the space and tranquillity of the walled garden, orchard, and wilder spaces of the estate whilst working towards certificated Awards.

Together, the Starfish Way, Megginch Castle and our team of dedicated and compassionate staff offer a safe, therapeutic and beautifully nurturing learning environment where young people can feel secure, find hope, grow in confidence and ultimately thrive and achieve.

By the end of a season with us, the vast majority of young people achieve either a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, a John Muir Award, a First Aid certificate, a Saltire Award or a National Navigation Award. Often, more than one! Even just completing a section of an award can be a truly remarkable achievement which they may never have believed possible before, but which opens up a world of new possibilities and opportunities to them.

Our Board of Trustees:

At PKDofE, we have a wonderful team of hard working staff, a heart to make a difference, and a vision of how to do it. At the helm is a small but energetic Board of charity trustees who come from different backgrounds and bring a broad range of skills and experience to the organisation. The Board meets 4 times a year whilst also engaging with each other and staff digitally and in person on a regular basis.

Role and requirements:

We are seeking to grow our board and expand its skillset with enthusiastic, dynamic and motivated people who care deeply about helping young people to become the best they can be. As we move ahead and seek to deliver our new strategy, you will join at an exciting time.

We welcome interest from all career stages and backgrounds but we are particularly keen to recruit two individuals at this time with expertise in either Human Resources, Scottish charity governance or fundraising. Being a Duke of Edinburgh or John Muir Award holder is not a necessity, but an understanding and appreciation of the Award schemes is important.

Being located in the central belt of Scotland is preferred, however, not essential as digital attendance at meetings is available. The role is non-remunerated but reasonable expenses can be reimbursed with any training and induction provided.

TRUSTEES SOUGHT TO TAKE THE MONTESSORI MESSAGE ACROSS SCOTLAND

Trustees of the newly formed Montessori Scotland Foundation – affiliated to Edinburgh Montessori Arts School - are looking for additional volunteer trustees to help take this exciting project further.

It is not change itself that poses challenge, but how we cope with change. Using Maria Montessori’s insights, which are practised across the globe, we believe we can help communities of all kinds - children, young people, neurodiverse people, older people and diverse communities - to learn, develop and grow stronger. The aim is to benefit communities in Scotland and our living environment.

• Experience: we are particularly interested in Trustees with knowledge or experience of business / legal / marketing & PR / finance / voluntary sector / community initiatives including the natural world & caring fields / fundraising or grant seeking. We encourage applications from a range of backgrounds, and you do not need Montessori or previous Board experience. Passion and/or lived experience are also interesting for us.
• The Trustee role is about bringing your enthusiasm and experience forward. Your support will help ensure robust growth so the new Foundation can make an impact in communities for decades to come.

• Time Commitment: we meet online each fortnight (1 hour) and 2-3 times per year in person. This is a volunteer role and is not paid. Agreed travel and associated expenses will be reimbursed.

Venture Scotland offers an outdoor-based personal development programme which empowers young people aged 16-30, who face complex and difficult challenges in their lives and want help to change.

We focus on the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of our young people working with them to make lasting changes to their lives and helping them play a positive role in their communities.

We are seeking a Corporate Fundraiser (who identifies with our values of Trust, Respect, Diversity, Inclusion, Environment and Personal Development) to help support the fundraising team to expand and diversify our income streams to ensure our organisation is sustainable into the future.

In this exciting opportunity, you will work closely with the other members of the fundraising team and lead on managing corporate partnerships to increase income in this funding stream. You will research, approach and secure corporate partnerships and donations (in line with our values) and fulfil the corporate fundraising strategy. You will deliver engaging presentations about our work, build relationships with key individuals at corporates and increase awareness of our work to new audiences throughout Scotland whilst also generating more income. To be successful in the role, you will have experience in securing income within the voluntary sector (or another sector if you are able to demonstrate transferable skills).

This is an interesting, challenging and exciting opportunity for a forward thinking, self-motivated and highly driven individual to join the Board of Edinburgh Science Ltd.

We are a not-for-profit enterprise that delivers activities in the UK including Edinburgh Science Festival, the learning programmes Generation Science, Careers Hive and a variety of climate /sustainability events and activities.

Our mission is to inspire, encourage and challenge people of all ages and backgrounds to explore, understand and engage with the world around them and to communicate the educational, social and economic benefits of science and technology. As leaders in our field of Science Communication, we work year-round to create and deliver dynamic hands-on workshops and exhibitions and inspirational shows, discussions, debates and performances that continually push the boundaries of public engagement with science. Communication and engagement is at the core of all our work and we strive to ensure that this is embedded in all aspects of our organisation.

About the role:

We aim to have a Board which covers the key areas in which we work, and we are now seeking to appoint an additional member. We are also looking to diversify the Board. We encourage applications from the whole breadth of our ethnically and culturally diverse communities, and from people at all stages in their careers.

Priority will be focussed on potential new members who have experience and skills in:

• Finance and Accountancy

Our non-executive board have ultimate responsibility for the operation and development of the organisation, including employability, compliance with legislation, fundraising, public relations and financial control.

There are four full board meetings of Edinburgh Science Ltd you would be expected to attend. Other sub-committees may meet on an ad hoc basis.

About you:

• Proven executive experience, ideally in an environment where managing change has been required.
• A strong strategic and commercial background.
• An interest in the work of Edinburgh Science.
• An excellent ability to work in collaboration with other stakeholders.
• Experience of formation, implementation and achievement of a business vision and strategy.
• IT literacy.
