Our Ethos is to provide unpaid carers with a range of high quality support services which enable them to have some normality of life whilst carrying out their caring role. Our Vision is that all carers get the help and support they need to sustain their caring role.

We are in the third year of a projected eight year contract to deliver appropriate support services to young carers in schools and in the community across Edinburgh. You will work a flexible 35 hour week to include some evening work and occasional weekend working. An element of working from home is envisaged.

In order to support our development, we want to recruit a further two Trustees/Directors.

As a member of the Board of Trustees/Directors, our governing body, you will contribute to setting the long-term strategic direction of Capital Carers as well as providing advice and support to other trustees and the CEO. Although we are ideally looking for specific skills and experience, we are just as keen to welcome the diversity of thought and constructive challenge of a “critical friend”. Personal experience of caring is also very welcome. Areas of experience and skills of particular interest are:

• Legal and employment

Our Board normally meets about seven times a year late afternoons or early evening either physically or on line. Trustees are not paid but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

Edinburgh Young Carers is seeking a suitably experienced and qualified applicant to join the service in developing and providing high quality support to young and young adult carers in Edinburgh between the ages of 5 and 25 years.

The post-holder will build positive relationships with young carers and young adult carers and lead and assist in the planning, preparation and facilitation of a range of group work activities.

They will engage young and young adult carers to shape the development of our service and work alongside colleagues to raise awareness of young carers and their needs, identify hidden young carers and contribute to support plans to ensure that young carers’ identified personal outcomes are being met, in accordance with the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016.

The candidate will need to be suitably qualified and experienced in working with children and young people, with at least three years proven experience in a role including group work.

Edinburgh Young Carers Service is a voluntary organisation working with and on behalf of young carers throughout Edinburgh. We are one of the largest and most well established independent young carers organisations in Scotland. We have a strong commitment to the rights of children and young people.

This is a newly created post which will provide an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with an opportunity to join a dedicated team of young carer support workers committed to improving the lives of young carers.

Based at Lomond House in Helensburgh and operating throughout the Helensburgh and Lomond area, including rural villages, you will be making a difference to young carers and their families. The interesting and challenging work involves identifying young carers, working with them and their families, preparing and reviewing personal statements and organising events and activities.

You will work as part of a small team but must be able to prioritise your own workload and have good interpersonal skills. Empathy with young people, their issues and concerns, is essential.

The successful applicant will require to be registered as a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme, which will involve a Disclosure Scotland check.
