Role

Join our Board – Central Wellbeing SCIO

Main Purpose of post:

To play a full part in the governance of the charity, bringing particular expertise in finance, fundraising or marketing and communications.

Who are we? Central Wellbeing SCIO facebook.com/CentralWellbeingFalkirk Central Wellbeing SCIO is a new mental health charity, we were established with the support from Outside the Box Development Support Ltd (OTBDS) in October 2021. OTBDS works across Scotland, they have worked in the Falkirk area since 2015 and they have earned a reputation for developing great ideas into successful projects. In 2021 it was decided that the current projects in Falkirk would sit better within in its own charity.

Central Wellbeing SCIO has been officially running the Falkirk projects as of 1st April 2022. The Falkirk staff have transferred from OTBDS and have been building on the existing good work and reputation. Everyone involved with Central Wellbeing, be it staff or the Board, have lived experience of poor mental health or for caring for someone who does.

Central Wellbeing runs peer support groups for people whose mental health and wellbeing is not as good as it could be. We also run community events and workshops.

Central Wellbeing SCIO’s strategy over the next three years focusses on two key areas of activity: providing opportunities for people to support each other through peer support groups and raising awareness of how everyone can look after their mental health. Everyone has mental health same as physical health, but not everyone understands how to look after it.

We are led by our values, and it’s imperative that all our Trustees share them:

We see everyone as a whole person, with valid experiences, talents and their own way of living

We recognise that lived experience is valuable learning and we use it in everything we do

We support people to help each other

We offer people choice as everyone is different

We work with others and promote looking after mental wellbeing as a need for everyone

The roles:We currently have 6 Trustees, but we’re keen to add to the team, especially people who would be interested in serving as Chair or Treasurer. This is a very exciting time to join Central Wellbeing SCIO as we are approaching our second year. We have grown our staff team, increased the number of groups we offer, and we have opened premises in the centre of town. We have been inundated with people dropping in to see us and we can see the need for our projects to further develop to meet this growing need.

As we’re still in the early stages of our story, we seek people who would like to help us shape Central Wellbeing to become one of the household names in Falkirk. We need individuals who have:

• finance and fundraising experience to help us ensure we can continue making a difference to people in Falkirk

• marketing and communications experience to help us raise our profile and reach more people

As we are championing lived experience, we seek Trustees with personal understanding of poor mental health. The Central Wellbeing SCIO board meets 4 times a year, typically for a two-hour meeting held in the evening in Falkirk. Board papers are distributed in advance. In addition, trustees are invited to community events to engage with our partners and user groups. We would be open to the trustees working closely with the small staff team so there would be an opportunity to work collaboratively on specific marketing and or other projects.

About you: The charity welcomes applicants that reflect the diversity of the community we serve. We value the diversity of opinion, thought and experience that a new board member can bring. The appointment may appeal to an experienced person wishing to volunteer their expertise for the benefit of the community, and from individuals who share our values
