Impact Arts delivers a number of different services aimed at young people between the ages of 14 and 26 - in 2020/21 almost 80% of our work focused on children and young people alone.

As a result of resent co-design projects we are aware that many of the young people we work with, have a desire to continue their engagement with the organisation as volunteers. Through further conversation and consultation we heard that these young people wish to undertake volunteer opportunities as either a Sketchy Youth or Peer Support Volunteer.

Sketchy Youths– are Impact Arts’ Youth Steering Group. The group currently comes together to explore how we can best support the young people we engage with and adapt or develop projects that respond to their needs. Looking forward we would like to expand this group, provide them with stronger support; explore the roles and responsibilities of this invaluable group and equip them with the tools and knowledge that support them in their roles.

Peer Support Volunteers – young people, particularly those with protected characteristics, told us that they would like to support others to engage with Impact Arts by sharing their stories and experiences with peers (many of whom are seen to be hard to or are too nervous/anxious to engage); and that they would be keen to do so as volunteers where these opportunities supported them to grow their skills and move closer to employment.

The Youth Volunteering Development Coordinator will help us to:

• Design and deliver best practice volunteer policy and practices within Impact Arts

• Co-design youth volunteer positions in partnership with those we seek to engage

• Achieve our ambitions of embedding youth volunteering across our services

• Ensure that every volunteer benefits from strong support and development
