About the Role
This work is about helping people to live well and achieve the things in life that really matter to them. Redhall Walled Garden is one of SAMH’s therapeutic Horticultural services located in the peaceful haven of Edinburgh’s Colinton Dell.
We work to improve mental health through gardening and a variety of outdoor tasks. In addition to the gardening activities, we also offer person centred support to improve IT skills and Employability.
The Employability Practitioner will provide a personalised support service assisting service users to develop skills, motivation and confidence to enable them to move in to suitable sustainable employment, volunteering or learning. They will help people to identify and address barriers to employability and other opportunities in the community
Everyone we support is different and we use individually tailored plans to help them to identify where their strengths lie and support them in the areas where they may need it We are looking for initiative, compassion, energy and determination and the ability to motivate and inspire people who use our services to develop their skills and self-confidence and realise their aspirations.
What we are looking for
We’re looking for someone with experience supporting people into employment, training or education who can help individuals develop the skills, motivation and confidence required to move in to suitable sustainable employment, volunteering, education or community activities.
In this role your attitude and personality matter as much as your skills and experiences. Respect, dignity and choice for the people who use our services is at the heart of everything we do. You don’t need any specific qualifications at first, but what you do need is the right attitude and values. We will ask you to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) membership. We’re looking for a person with great people skills who is honest, reliable and resilient in challenging situations.
Supporting the people who use our services means there are a variety of shift patterns including occasional evenings and weekends. You will be allocated to Redhall as service base but may be required to work at times in other SAMH or partner services.
Access to own transport would be desirable.
