You join us at an exciting time as we continue to play our part in helping Scotland's children and families recover from the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic. We are a dynamic charity focussed on leading transformational change for children so that they stay safe, happy and well in their own families and communities.

Children 1st has records dating back to 1884 and the Research and Archive Assistant will play a key role in turning this collection into a comprehensive, accessible archive enabling Children 1st to have a detailed understanding of its history, shape future research projects and facilitate access to those records from children and families who were supported historically. We have initially a two year funded position.

What kind of person will make a good Research and Archive Assistant for Children 1st?

  • will have previous experience of conducting historical research
  • will have an ability to plan and organise your own workload effectively
  • will have a passion for learning and developing your skillset
  • keen to pursue a career in the research or archives sector
  • has an interest in social history
  • has an interest in Archives
  • able to deal with sensitive and triggering material
  • has a methodical approach and close attention to detail
  • able to record, process and analyse data

Your main office base can be Glasgow or Edinburgh with occasional travel to archive search rooms in Glasgow and Edinburgh
