Greener Kirkcaldy is a community-led charity working locally to bring people together, take positive action on the climate emergency and support people experiencing fuel poverty and food insecurity.

We want our town to be a good place to live and work. We believe in a future where everyone has a say in what happens locally, people are working together to protect our environment and those in hardship are supported to live well.

Our team of 40 staff and 100 volunteers deliver a wide range of grant-funded projects and social enterprise (income-generating) activities, including the Lang Toun Cycles Community Bike Shop and The Lang Spoon Community Kitchen. We work in Kirkcaldy and across the region of Fife, often in partnership with other charities, public-sector organisations and social enterprises. Our work is diverse and includes programmes of action on climate change, fuel poverty and food insecurity, encouraging individuals, households, community groups and businesses to make Fife a greener and fairer place to live.

We are looking for an experienced Development Worker (Community Engagement) to play a key role in the delivery of Greener Kirkcaldy’s organisational strategy.

The Development Worker (Community Engagement) will lead on the delivery of aspects of the Climate Action Fife project, which runs from 2022-2027 with support from the National Lottery Community Fund’s Climate Action Fund. Alongside this, they will be responsible for the delivery of additional Greener Kirkcaldy community engagement events.

The role involves developing and facilitating programmes of events and activities; recruiting, training and supporting volunteers; developing engagement and behaviour change campaigns along with our Communications Team; and working closely with other teams within Greener Kirkcaldy as well as local and regional partners.

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is a world leading botanical institute and international visitor attraction taking positive action for plants and people; from local communities across Scotland, to more than 40 countries around the world. Our four Scottish gardens – Benmore, Dawyck, Logan and ‘The Botanics’ in Edinburgh – attract over a million visitors every year. Together, these gardens comprise one of the richest plant collections on earth. As a registered Scottish charity, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) is funded principally by the Scottish Government – but as an organisation, we are very much global with a mission to explore, conserve and explain the world of plants for a better future. Our current work involves collaborative science and conservation projects in more than 35 countries around the world.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Science Manager to join our team to deliver management support for research grants, consultancy contracts and partnerships, and to facilitate the development and implementation of efficient operational working practices. We’re looking for someone who can help us deliver effective and efficient operations, maximise our research quality and bid success, and ensure we have financially astute contractual arrangements in place at all times as we look to expand out externally funded work.

This is a wide-ranging job, acting as the key liaison for funding initiatives, operating across our Science and commercial divisions. This will involve tracking funding opportunities and co-ordinating responses, working with potential grant submitters on their timelines and supporting their needs for applications to funding calls, and managing the preparation, coordination and completion of research and consultancy contracts. Another key aspect of the role is to support key operations to underpin the smooth running of the science team at RBGE. This will involve facilitating improved working practices across the remit of science, including optimising logistics to support data production and data management, quality control, and the practical ways in which teams work and interact together.

The post is suited to individuals who are highly organised effective communicators. You will have excellent attention to detail, clarity of thought and an aptitude for problem solving. You should be comfortable and effective in facilitating and managing different aspects of research and consultancy funding, and the enthusiasm and ability to support the implementation of wider logistical and operational processes in our science team. Experience and understanding of funding and consultancy opportunities is desirable, as is experience of contracts and partnership agreements, and an understanding of the general process which underpin the function and operations of science research programmes.

While the post is well suited to applicants with established experience of grants/contract management, science logistics and project management, we also welcome applicants from a biodiversity science background, who wish to make the transition into science operations management.

Although we see this as a full-time role, applications will also be considered from exceptional candidates looking to work on a part-time basis.

Circular Communities Scotland (previously CRNS) is a membership network with a vision for a thriving circular economy in Scotland with local communities benefiting from the social, environmental, and economic outcomes. With a growing membership of over 250 charities and social enterprises we are always looking for new ways to support the circular community’s sector and see our vision become a reality.

In 2022 we began an exciting project funded by the Scottish Government and Zero Waste Scotland, which has the ambitious goals to grow fourfold the number of Sharing Libraries and Repair Cafés in Scotland over the next three years by establishing the Share and Repair Network. The project has made excellent progress during the first 15 months, but we are now seeking a strong candidate to provide maternity cover for our coordinator.

If you are the successful candidate, you will be responsible for running this network. Working with experts within the sector, you will prepare a wide variety of deliverables agreed with our funders including delivering training courses, networking events and an annual in person Gathering, and arranging research projects. This is a real opportunity to significantly increase the amount of sharing and repairing happening in Scotland thereby combatting climate change.

We are also determined to get the right person to join our strong team which is why we are open to exploring different options regarding place of work from office based to remote working.

We are looking for a strong self-starter with a proven track record of delivery so you can hit the ground running. You need to be a strong communicator, self-organised and able to manage a complex range of deliverables over a fairly short period of time. You need to be passionate about the circular economy and sustainability in general and some experience of our sector would be positive.

Amma Birth Companions is a Glasgow charity that supports women and birthing people who are facing significant adversity on their journey to parenthood. Our mission is to create a supportive space where individuals feel seen, informed, and empowered in all aspects of their birth experience.

We provide volunteer companions, peer support activities and antenatal education to those who are facing pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood with limited support. This includes, but is not limited to, those who are refugees and in the asylum process.

Our companions offer one-to-one emotional and practical support throughout the perinatal phase and our ‘Amma Family’ programme facilitates opportunities for our participants to connect with one another and their communities.

Role

This new post will manage and further develop the Amma Family programme. This peer support programme currently consists of activities including parent and baby groups, exercise class, garden activities, and workshops.

Main duties:

• Managing the small Amma Family staff team
• Managing the weekly programme of activities
• Developing the programme in line with the needs, wants, knowledge and skills of the participants and adopting the principles of peer support and co-production
• Ensuring that peer supporters, Amma Family volunteers and placement students are recruited, trained, nurtured, managed, and supported
• Risk assessing activities and ensuring safe working
• Managing an active WhatsApp group which enables information sharing and connection between parents
• Working with senior management to tailor the Amma Family programme to the needs of new participant groups
• Supporting and encouraging new participants to engage with activities, finding ways to overcome barriers to participation
• Facilitating groups, ensuring participants feel engaged and included
• Sensitively dealing with issues arising within groups
• Collaborating with others (internal and external) to run a series of social events, workshops, and other opportunities for participants throughout the year
• Working in partnership with community gardening organisations to develop outdoor opportunities throughout the summer
• Oversee administration for the groups including organising catering, expenses, travel as well as room preparation and tidy up
• Ensuring participants with unmet needs are referred or signposted for support
• Keeping thorough records of attendance and participation using our participant database
• Monitoring and evaluating activities
• Responding to safeguarding concerns in line with Amma’s policies and procedures
