The Royal College of General Practitioners is the largest membership organisation solely for GPs in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1952, it has over 54,000 members who are committed to improving patient care, developing their own skills and promoting general practice as a discipline. General practice is the largest branch of the medical profession. It provides some 1 million consultations for patients in the UK every working day and deals with 86% of the health problems experienced by the UK population.

This is a relatively new role, and we are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-looking manager interested in developing the strategic and operational management of the local member support structure in Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland. Working closely with our existing Membership and Events teams, you will provide high level leadership and operational support to the Chairs and Officers of Faculties in Wales, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, as well as to the staff team.

The successful applicant will have a strong track record of strategic planning, operational, people-management and communication skills, motivation and drive to both deliver the day to day work of the Faculties, as well as being able to assist proactively and strategically as part of the RCGP staff team across the Devolved Nations and the Republic of Ireland. They will help Faculties deliver their priorities in their area, as well as coordinate with priorities for the College nationally. A flexible approach to working hours is necessary as there are some evening meetings in various locations the Devolved Nations and RoI, with occasional travel a possibility elsewhere in the UK, however many of them take place virtually.

You should be a robust and innovative manager, with a strong track record of experience in complex staff, project, engagement, as well as financial management. As well as being a positive team player, proactive and an excellent communicator, you will be able to work with and motivate staff and volunteers from a distance. Experience of working within a membership-based organisation is desirable, as is an understanding of Primary Care and the current health landscape.

A full driving licence and access to a car is essential in order to be able to attend meetings within the region and nationally, some of which will be held in the evening. A flexi-time scheme is in operation.
