Youth Development Worker (Employability)

£25,052 pro rata, 28 hours per week fixed term for 1 year

This post will lead on the delivery of the NOLB Activity Agreement Programme. Canongate Youth is the city centre hub for this programne and takes referrals from across the city. The postholder will work directly with young people to agree a bespoke package of activity to encourage and support them in taking their next step towards a positive destination. We are looking for someone with experience in employability support and training and a person-centred approach to supporting young people aged 16-24 years.

We are Rock Trust and our vision is an end to youth homelessness in Scotland Who we are For 30 years we have been working to prevent youth homelessness and to support young people to build better futures. We aim to ensure that every young person in Scotland has access to expert youth specific services to assist them to avoid, survive and move on from homelessness. We work to ensure that the public, policy makers, commissioners and practitioners understand the issues, make decisions and take action which will help us to end youth homelessness.

The Health and Wellbeing Worker will be working along side two art therapists and a peer mentor project worker in the team. The team’s focus is supporting young people’s mental health who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness. They will receive individual and group clinical supervision. The Health and Wellbeing Worker will be based within the Youth Development Team but will work with other teams in the organisation. The Health and Wellbeing Worker will use a person-centered approach with young people to build trust and enable them to improve outcomes with a focus on:

• Mental and emotional health, self-esteem, and confidence
• Relationships, boundaries, and safety

The Health and Wellbeing Worker will work with young people within drop ins, one-to-one support, and group work. Where appropriate they will support young people to gain additional support from statutory services.

The role

Our Local Partnership and Engagement Officer (Maternity Cover) will support the planning and delivery of our Young Scot local offer. You will work closely with various partners who are engaging young people at the heart of their work. This will ensure that young people across Scotland can access Young Scot services locally and nationally.

What you’ll be doing from day-to-day

• Represent Young Scot at external events and deliver key messaging on Young Scot’s products and services.
• Collaborate, maintain, and develop relationships with key stakeholders, local authorities, local partners, and schools through effective relationship management and attending regular meetings.
• Work with Be Empowered staff to develop and deliver youth friendly informative, resources, presentations, participation and engagement and training sessions on Young Scot products and services.
• To utilise all Young Scot services and digital platform, to enhance Young Scot’s local digital information and co-ordinate the effective use of Rewards and Discounts.
• Support with the delivery and of projects including use of the participatory budgeting platform.
• Other relevant duties to support the Senior Leadership Team.

A great candidate will have a mix of these skills and experiences:

• Good knowledge and understanding of working with young people.
• Experience of project development and delivery, including developing, delivering, and facilitating session plans, workshops, and events.
• Good understand and knowledge of developing and managing successful internal and external partnerships.
• Experience of designing and creating interactive engagement tools and resources.
• Good experience of producing high-quality written proposals, reports, and other written materials.
• Able to work effectively in a team and leading on own initiative.
• Good participation and engagement skills

The Project Worker will work as part of the Fife team to develop and deliver housing support to young people aged 16-25 who have experienced homelessness. The focus is on homeless prevention wherever possible, helping young people transition to permanent accommodation, and advising on the skills necessary to sustain a tenancy.

The post holder will be expected to:

• Build trusting, lasting relationships with young people
• Support young people to manage and thrive in their new home
• Provide flexible, person centered, strengths-based support for as long as is required
• Adopt a ‘whatever it takes’ and rights based approach
• Work in a psychologically and trauma informed manner
• Promote and share evaluation, learning and best practice

Project workers will work across the Fife local authority area, and as such access to a car and a full driving license are essential.
