The Citizens Advice network in Scotland is the largest independent advice service in the country. Citizens Advice Scotland is a charity within this network – we act as a national organisation supporting and representing the service as a whole and the interests of citizens. At the heart of the network there are 59 individual citizens advice bureau across Scotland, all operating as independent charities in their own right, which focus on providing support and advice directly to clients. Each of these organisations is a member of Citizens Advice Scotland. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Money Advice Consultant to join the Money Advice training and Consultancy Team at CAS. This position is initially a fixed term position until 31st March 2023. We are looking for an experienced Money Adviser/Trainer to join the team in providing consultancy advice and delivery of specialist debt advice training courses.

Organizational Responsibility

Main Purpose: To provide immediate advice, information and representation to vulnerable individuals engaged in the Alcohol or Substance recovery process, recovery cafes, provide 2nd tier consultancy support to colleagues within Forth Valley Alcohol or Substance recovery services and where necessary, refer and support clients to access appropriate advice agencies

The advice and representation offered will focus on the consequences of the Welfare reform Act and the economic downturn – seeking to resolve the practical barriers and stressors that inhibit Alcohol or Substance misuse recovery – primarily (but not exclusively) Money, Benefits, Debt, and Housing

To represent clients at Social Security Appeal Tribunals and Disability Appeal tribunals focusing on those which are a consequence of Welfare reform and the economic downturn.

Delivering a series of training sessions to front line ADP workers primarily, (but not exclusively) on Money, Benefits, Debt, Financial capacity, Employment rights and Housing

Project Delivery

The three FTE CAB Addiction Advice Project workers cover Forth Valley Alcohol Drug Partnership area. One FTE based in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire Proximity and access to advice on the frontline is essential and the workers would construct their availability and geographic location to maximise opportunity for Substance recovery staff and clients to engage with the minimum of obstacles.

Appointment to this post is conditional on two satisfactory references and a current PVG certificate.

We are looking for unique individuals who can support people living with dementia in a day care setting and at times within the community, in such a way that is personalised to the individual’s needs and supports their wellbeing.

Our support workers are our most important people as they provide front line support. Our support workers help individuals to maintain skills and independence by providing support to enable them to be active within their communities, participate in therapeutic activities and enjoy social stimulation.

Successful applicants will have a positive approach to dementia. They will also have good communication skills and a caring attitude. A willingness to learn and participate in training (including SVQ’s) is essential. Relevant qualifications and/or experience of working with people with dementia would be an advantage.

Background Information: National Advocacy Project

The National Advocacy Project is funded by the Scottish Government and is a partnership between RCS and the 17 local Rape Crisis Centres across Scotland. The project aims to provide support and advocacy to survivors who have engaged or are considering engaging with the criminal justice system following a sexual crime. The National Advocacy workers meet regularly for ongoing training and peer support and are supported by the National Advocacy Coordinator at Rape Crisis Scotland. Background Information: The STAR Centre

The STAR Centre (Ayrshire’s Rape Crisis Centre) offer free, confidential and trauma-informed support and information to anyone over the age of 12 years who has experienced sexual violence or knows someone who has, across Ayrshire. We support people of all genders, including all members of the trans community and non-binary people. We will listen, believe, and support anyone of any race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, gender identity, religious and cultural background.

We offer support via face-to-face meetings; telephone support; email support; video calls and live chat drop-in sessions. Our dedicated services include: Support, this service is for anyone over 25 years who has experienced any form of sexual violence at any time in their life. Support is also available for friends and family members; Support for Young People, A dedicated service for young people aged 12 to 25 years, who have experienced any form of sexual violence; Advocacy, A specialised service for anyone who has reported or is considering reporting an experience of sexual violence that happened recently or in the past; Prevention, Our Prevention workers deliver sexual violence prevention workshops to young people aged between 12 and 25 years, in schools and youth groups across Ayrshire.

This post is initially funded by the Scottish Government until end of March 2023, with continued funding being sought beyond then.
